Colour alone matters : no predator generalization among morphs of an aposematic moth

Local warning colour polymorphism, frequently observed in aposematic organisms, is evolutionarily puzzling. This is because variation in aposematic signals is expected to be selected against due to predators' difficulties associating several signals with a given unprofitable prey. One possible explanation for the existence of such variation is predator generalization, which occurs when predators learn to avoid one form and consequently avoid other sufficiently similar forms, relaxing selection for monomorphic signals. Understanding Batesian mimicry is a classic problem in evolutionary biology. In Batesian mimicry, a defended species (the model) is mimicked by an undefended species (the mimic). Prior theories have emphasized the role of predator behavior and learning as well as evolution in model-mimic complexes but have not examined the role of population dynamics in potentially governing the relative abundances and even persistence of model-mimic systems. This qualitative study investigated the various linguistic, contextual, and experiential equivalence issues embedded in a performance-based instrument aimed at assessing generic skills in higher education. A rigorous translation and adaptation process (American English to Finnish) was conducted on one instrument, namely Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA+) International. The data were obtained from cognitive laboratories (n = 13), with think-alouds and follow-up interviews conducted among Finnish undergraduate students. Bakalaura darba pētījuma mērķis bija noteikt saistības starp vecāku izmantotajām disciplinēšanas tehnikām un vecāku kompetences izjūtu pirmsskolas vecuma bērnu vecākiem. Pētījumā piedalījās 50 vecāki (44 mātes un 6 tēvi), kuriem vismaz viens bērns ir vecumā no 3 līdz 5 gadiem (25 meitas un 25 dēli: 23 bija 3 gadīgi, 16 bija 4 gadīgi un 11 bija 5 gadīgi). Tika veikts korelatīvs pētījums, izmantojot instrumentus: “Vecāku kompetences izjūtas skala” (Parenting sense of competence scale, Johnston & Mash, 1989). Latviešu valodā skalu adaptējušas I. Maģistra darba tēma ir: vecāku attieksmes un kompetences rādītāju izmaiņas pusaudžu māšu intervences grupā. Maģistra darba mērķis ir novērtēt vecāku kompetences izjūtas, vecāku attieksmes rādītāju izmaiņas pirms un pēc intervences programmas īstenošanas. Kvalitatīvajā pētījuma daļā tika veikta vecāku interviju satura vienību kontentanalīze, lai izpētītu vecāku kompetences izjūtas un attieksmes īpatnības.
