2018

Master grunnskolelærerutdanning for trinn 5-10, 5-årig masterprogram IDR507 - Universitetet i Agder 2018 Background and purpose: The purpose of physical education is a highly discussed theme today, mostly because of the unclear core of the subject. This study aims to investigate the emergence of the health-discourse, the sports-discourse and the «bildung» -discourse, as well as to examine which of these discourses that are the most prominent within Norwegian physical education. Teacher education programmes in physical education and sport at master’s level: Opportunities and challenges

2021

The Physical Education curriculum design in Spain: A critical review from the LOGSE to the LOMCE

2016

This paper analyses the curriculum framework of the different Education Acts through democracy in order to identify and compare their most distinctive features; their flexibility and the granted autonomy for schools and teachers, in order to materialise and develop the curriculum, is also dealt with in this contribution. The analysis concludes that the open and flexible curriculum of the first Education Acts in democracy has evolved towards a more closed and prescriptive curriculum, which indirectly leads into an objective-based pedagogy and places the teacher in a technical teaching role. The texts’ analysis confirms this trend in the Physical Education area, in which teachers will meet wi…

Methods. Thirty-one healthy adolescent girls, of which 11 age-matched control subjects [C], 10 basketballers (BP) and 10 volleyballers (VP) participated to the study. The throwing performance was assessed by seated backward overhead ball throw (SBOMBT) and seated chest pass throw (SCPT) using a 3-kg rubber medicine ball. Stereotype threat and lift effects on perceived ability and motor task performance of high school physical education students: the moderating role of…

2016

This study investigated the effects of stereotype threat and lift on perceived ability and motor task performance, and tested the moderating effects of stereotype endorsement and domain identification. One hundred and twenty French high school students were randomly assigned to control, stereotype threat, or stereotype lift conditions, in a 3 (condition) × 2 (sex) study design. The results revealed a stereotype lift effect on boys’ performance moderated by domain identification and a stereotype threat effect on girls’ perceived ability moderated by domain identification and stereotype endorsement. Perceived ability did not mediate the effects of stereotype threat and lift on performance. Th…

A INVESTIGAÇÃO NARRATIVA EM EDUCAÇÃO FÍSICA E ESPORTE: QUE É E QUAL A SUA UTILIDADE

2011

Narrative inquiry is a burgeoning form of research in social sciences that has received little attention in physical education and sport sciences. In this article, we seek to balance this situation by offering an understanding of what narrative inquiry can be and can offer to our field. In order to gain some theoretical purchase on a difficult field, we first define narrative. Next, a distillation of guiding assumptions and characteristics are offered. Finally, some reasons as to why narratives may be of benefit for the field of physical education and sport. In conclusion, we consider narrative inquiry as a useful, although problematic, way of theorizing and doing research in the domains of…

Teachers' Behavior and Pupils' Achievement Motivation as Determinants of Intended Helping Behavior in Physical Education

2013

The present two-wave longitudinal study examined the extent to which physical education (PE) teachers' democratic and socially supportive behavior, pupils' goal orientations, and the perceived motivational climate in PE explained differences in pupils' intended helping behavior by gender in PE classes. The results of 105 boys and 109 girls based on structural equation modeling revealed at both time points that the PE teachers' democratic and socially supportive behavior was positively related to pupils' concurrent perceptions of the motivational climate as task-involving as well as their higher concurrent intended helping behavior in PE. Pupils' prior perceptions of the motivational climate…

2015
