Determination of Sulfur in Fertilizers by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry: Spectral and Interelement Effects at Various Wavel…

1996

Abstract Three analytical wavelengths (180.731,182.037, and 182.625 nm) were tested for determination of sulfur in 2 fertilizers by inductively coupled plasmaatomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES). Variable S results at 182.037 nm were caused by a downward sloping background shift (Fe line at 181.851 nm) during measurement of the sample solutions. At 182.625 nm an emission peak doublet, 182.619/182.635 nm, was observed from which the instrument selected the measurement peak. A shift from calibrated peak 182.619 nm to noncalibrated peak 182.635 nm occurred when the S/B ratios were ≤22-31 in the fertilizer samples examined. For the 3 wavelengths of S investigated, the pattern of spectral and …

Hemorheologic profile of hyperlipidemic patients treated with gemfibrozil

1996

Abstract We measured the plasma lipid levels and the macrorheologic (whole-blood, plasma, and serum viscosity levels; fibrinogen; hematocrit; mean erythrocyte aggregation; and whole-blood filterability) and microrheologic (erythrocyte membrane fluidity and red cell membrane protein lateral mobility) determinants in a group of 19 hyperlipidemic patients (Fredrickson's classification phenotype IIa, 12 patients; phenotype IV, 4; phenotype IIb, 3) at baseline and after 45 and 90 days of treatment with gemfibrozil (900 mg orally once a day). At baseline we noted statistically significant increases in plasma viscosity level, fibrinogen, and mean erythrocyte aggregation, as well as a statistically…

Electrokinetic chromatographic estimation of the enantioselective binding of nomifensine to human serum albumin and total plasma proteins

2012

This report is the first evidence of enantioselective binding of nomifensine to human serum albumin (HSA) and plasma proteins. The overall process with HSA included: (i) consistent experimental design along two independent sessions; (ii) incubation of nomifensine–HSA designed mixtures; (iii) ultrafiltration for separating the unbound enantiomers fraction; (iv) electrokinetic chromatography (EKC) using heptakis-2,3,6-tri-O-methyl-β-cyclodextrin as chiral selector to provide experimental data for enantiomers (first, E1, and second, E2, eluted ones); and (v) a recent direct equation allowing univariate tests and robust statistics to provide consistent parameters and uncertainty. A significant …

Evaluation of the enantioselective binding of imazalil to human serum albumin by capillary electrophoresis

2015

In this work, a methodology for the evaluation of enantioselective binding of imazalil (IMA) enantiomers to human serum albumin (HSA) that does not require the separation of free and bound to HSA fractions is developed. This methodology comprises the incubation of IMA–HSA designed mixtures for 30 min directly in the capillary electrophoresis system and the subsequent direct injection and chiral separation of IMA employing highly sulfated β-cyclodextrin as chiral selector and the complete filling technique. Two mathematical approaches were used to estimate apparent affinity constants (K1), protein binding and enantioselectivity (ES) for both enantiomers of IMA. Moderate enantioselective bind…

Determination of phenobarbital in plasma by micellar liquid chromatography

2000

A new liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of phenobarbital in plasma samples is described. The proposed system uses a Spherisorb octadecyl-silane ODS-2 C(18) analytical column, a guard column of similar characteristics, and a 0.03 M CTAB-3% 1-propanol at pH 7 mobile phase. The UV detector was set at 250 nm. Butabarbital was used as internal standard. Sample preparation only required the addition to the plasma samples of a 0.1 M SDS solution at pH 3 and centrifugation before injection into the chromatographic system. The limit of detection was 0.83 microg/mL of phenobarbital in plasma samples. The coefficients of variation were lower than 7. 5%.

Determination of amobarbital and secobarbital in plasma samples using micellar liquid chromatography

2000

A new liquid chromatographic procedure for the determination of amobarbital and secobarbital in plasma samples is proposed. The method uses a Spherisorb octadecylsilane ODS-2 C18 analytical column, a guard column of similar characteristics and 0.04 M CTAB solution buffered at pH 7.5 containing 3% 1-propanol as micellar mobile phase. The UV detection was carried out at 250 nm. Butabarbital was used as internal standard. Plasma samples preparation only required adequate dilution with the mobile phase before injection into the chromatographic system. The limits of detection were 0.2 and 0.4 mg/L for amobarbital and secobarbital, respectively. The proposed method allows the determination of amo…

Determination of Magnesium in Fertilizers by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry: Studies of Some Spectral and Interelement Effec…

1995

Abstract Four analytical wavelengths of magnesium were tested for determination of Mg from fertilizers by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES): 202.528, 285.213, and 383.826 nm (Mg I) and 279.553 (Mg II). The effects of fertilizer matrix elements on Mg determination were examined by adding matrix elements to fertilizer solutions. Multiple linear regression calculations proved a valuable technique for evaluating the effects of matrix elements on Mg determination. The observed interferences at Mg wavelengths may be both spectral and interelement. Interelement effects were typically caused by Na, K, and Ca, and spectral effects, by P, Fe, and S. The best wavelength…

Research Letter: Structural Combination of Established 5-HT2A Receptor Ligands: New Aspects of the Binding Mode

2010

MH.MZ, MDL 100907, and altanserin are structurally similar 4-benzoyl-piperidine derivatives and are well accommodated to receptor interaction models. We combined structural elements of different high-affinity and selective 5-HT(2A) antagonists, as MH.MZ, altanserin, and SR 46349B, to improve the binding properties of new compounds. Three new derivatives were synthesized with a 4-benzoyl-piperidine moiety as the lead structure. The in vitro affinity of the novel compounds was determined by a [³H]MDL 100907 competition binding assay. The combination of MH.MZ and SR 46349B resulted in a compound (8) with a moderate affinity toward the 5-HT(2A) receptor (K(i) = 57 nm). The remarkably reduced af…
