Low temperature atomic layer deposition of noble metals using ozone and molecular hydrogen as reactants
2013
Abstract Atomic layer deposition (ALD) of noble metals by thermal processes has relied mostly on the use of molecular oxygen as a reactant at temperatures of 200 °C and above. In this study, the concept of using consecutive ozone and molecular hydrogen pulses with noble metal precursors in ALD is introduced for palladium, rhodium, and platinum metals. This approach facilitates the growth of noble metal thin films below 200 °C. Also the ALD of palladium oxide thin films is demonstrated by the ozone-based chemistry. The growth rates, resistivities, crystallinities, surface roughnesses, impurity contents, and adhesion of the films to the underlying Al 2 O 3 starting surface are reported and th…

Unprecedented layered coordination polymers of dithiolene group 10 metals: Magnetic and electrical properties
2016
One-pot reactions between Ni(ii), Pd(ii) or Pt(ii) salts and 3,6-dichloro-1,2-benzenedithiol (HSC6H2Cl2SH) in KOH medium under argon lead to a series of bis-dithiolene coordination polymers. X-ray analysis shows the presence of a common square planar complex [M(SC6H2Cl2S)2]2- linked to potassium cations forming either a two-dimensional coordination polymer network for {[K2(μ-H2O)2(μ-thf)(thf)2][M(SC6H2Cl2S)2]}n [M = Ni (1) and Pd (2)] or a one-dimensional coordination polymer for {[K2(μ-H2O)2(thf)6][Pt(SC6H2Cl2S)2]}n (3). In 3 the coordination environment of the potassium ions may slightly change leading to the two-dimensional coordination polymer {[K2(μ-H2O)(μ-thf)2][Pt(SC6H2Cl2S)2]}n (4) …

Constraints on Earth accretion deduced from noble metals in the oceanic mantle
1998
If the Earth's mantle were in equilibrium with its core, the mantle would contain three orders of magnitude less of the noble metals (platinum-group elements Pt, Os, Ir, Ru, Pd and Rh, plus Au and Re) than are observed. An explanation put forward to account for this disparity has been that the last 1% of the Earth's accretion occurred after the iron-rich core had separated from the mantle1,2. Recent debate has accordingly centred on which meteorite class or classes made up this ‘late veneer’ of accretion3. Here we present analyses of noble-metal concentrations in oceanic peridotites (plutonic rocks which are thought to represent samples of the Earth's upper mantle). We find that the average…
Highly siderophile element geochemistry of the Earth's mantle: new data for the Lanzo (Italy) and Ronda (Spain) orogenic peridotite bodies
2000
Abstract Nine plagioclase/spinel lherzolites from the Lanzo (Italy) and Ronda (Spain) peridotite bodies were analysed for Re, Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pd, and Au using a high-precision instrumental neutron activation (INA) procedure after NiS fire assay. Our data conform with previous observations that orogenic lherzolite massifs sampled domains of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) displaying a characteristic enrichment of Ru, Rh and Pd (i.e. the light platinum group elements; PGEs) over Os and Ir. The Pd/Ir, Rh/Ir and Ru/Ir ratios are superchondritic and very similar in both suites (2.46±0.32 vs. 2.42±0.21; 0.46±0.07 vs. 0.45±0.10; 1.99±0.14 vs. 2.25±0.25, respectively). Rhenium and gol…

DNA-binding and in vitro cytotoxic activity of platinum(II) complexes of curcumin and caffeine
2019
Abstract Three Pt(II) complexes containing the natural ligands curcumin and caffeine, namely [Pt(curc)(PPh3)2]Cl (1), [PtCl(curc)(DMSO)] (2) (curc = deprotonated curcumin) and trans-[Pt(caffeine)Cl2(DMSO)] (3), were synthesized and fully characterized. The data obtained suggest that, for both 1 and 2, the anion of curcumin is coordinated to the platinum ion via the oxygen atoms of the β-diketonate moiety. Spectroscopic features reveal that in 2 and 3, a DMSO molecule is S-bonded to the metal centre. For 3, all data indicate a square-planar geometry formed by a 9-N bonded caffeine, two trans chloride anions and a DMSO. The three complexes undergo changes in solution upon incubation for 24 h;…
Highly Photoluminescent Blue Ionic Platinum-Based Emitters
2019
New cycloplatinated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) compounds with chelate diphosphines (P^P) as ancillary ligands: [Pt(R-C^C*)(P^P)]PF6 (R = H, P^P = dppm (1A), dppe (2A), dppbz (3A); R = CN, P^P = dppm (1B), dppe (2B), dppbz (3B)) have been prepared from the corresponding starting material [{Pt(R-C^C*)(μ-Cl)}2] (R = H, A, R = CN, B) and fully characterized. The new compound A has been prepared by a stepwise protocol. The photophysical properties of 1A–3A and 1B–3B have been widely studied and supported by the time-dependent-density functional theory. These compounds show an efficient blue (dppe, dppbz) or cyan (dppm) emission in PMMA films (5 wt %), with photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY…
