Hydro-dimerization of Pt2Cl2(C2H4)2: model reaction to capture details on catalytic mechanisms

2005

Abstract The density functional theory was employed to mimic the homogeneous hydro-dimerization of the Zeise-similar dichloro-bis(ethene)-platinum(II), PtCl 2 ( C 2 H 4 ) 2 . Three energy minima and four transition-states were involved in the reaction mechanism, which was even characterized by a catalytic cycle. The minima were fully optimized at B3LYP level whereas the transition-states were first individuated at the same level, by the synchronous transit-guided quasi-Newton method, then fully optimized. The mechanistic hypotheses on the PtCl 2 ( C 2 H 4 ) 2 dimerization implied the displacement of two ethene or two ethane molecules, respectively, occurring in absence or in presence of mol…

Preferential CO oxidation over catalysts with well-defined inverse opal structure in microchannels

2008

Catalyst supports of CeO 2 /SiO 2 and Al 2 O 3 with three-dimensionally ordered macroporous structure were fabricated in microchannels by application of PMMA opals as templates. Pt-Rh supported on CeO 2 /SiO 2 showed high efficiency for CO removal in preferential CO oxidation in the presence of excess hydrogen. Pt-Rh supported on Al 2 O 3 with an inverse opal structure showed higher reactivity than that supported on wash-coated Al 2 O 3 layers in microchannel reactor.

The actual management of colorectal liver metastases

2020

Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequent cancers in the world and between 50% and 60% of patients will develop colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) during the disease. There have been great improvements in the management of CRLM during the last decades. The combination of modern chemotherapeutic and biological systemic treatments with aggressive surgical resection strategies is currently the base for the treatment of patients considered unresectable until few years ago. Furthermore, several new treatments for the local control of CRLM have been developed and are now part of the arsenal of multidisciplinary teams for the treatment of these complex patients. The aim of this review was to s…

Potential anticancer heterometallic Fe-Au and Fe-Pd agents: Initial mechanistic insights

2013

A series of gold(III) and palladium(II) heterometallic complexes with new iminophosphorane ligands derived from ferrocenylphosphanes [{Cp-P(Ph2)═N-Ph}2Fe] (1), [{Cp-P(Ph2)═N-CH2-2-NC5H4}2Fe] (2), and [{Cp-P(Ph2)═N-CH2-2-NC5H4}Fe(Cp)] (3) have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Ligands 2 and 3 afford stable coordination complexes [AuCl2(3)]ClO4, [{AuCl2}2(2)](ClO4)2, [PdCl2(3)], and [{PdCl2}2(2)]. The complexes have been evaluated for their antiproliferative properties in human ovarian cancer cells sensitive and resistant to cisplatin (A2780S/R), in human breast cancer cells (MCF7) and in a nontumorigenic human embryonic kidney cell line (HEK-293T). The highly cytotoxic trimeta…

Electron Emission of Pt: Experimental Study and Comparison With Models in the Multipactor Energy Range

2016

Experimental data of secondary emission yield (SEY) and electron emission spectra of Pt under electron irradiation for normal incidence and primary energies lower than 1 keV are presented. Several relevant magnitudes, as total SEY, elastic backscattering probability, secondary emission spectrum, and backscattering coefficient, are given for different primary energies. These magnitudes are compared with theoretical or semiempirical formulas commonly used in the related literature.

Evaluation of Platinum-based Therapy Response in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

2015

Aim: To evaluate the clinical value of PET imaging for an early prediction of tumor response to platinum-based therapy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In order to avoid unnecessary toxicity of ineffective chemotherapy treatment, an early identification of NSCLC patients who benefit from this therapy is mandatory. Materials and methods: Seventeen patients are enrolled prospectively: 18F-FDG-PET examinations are carried out before treatment and after the first course. The lesions with the highest uptake in each patient are evaluated according to EORTC, PERCIST and RECIST classifications to discriminate between patients who respond (complete and partial response) from thos…

Cyclic metal(oid) clusters control platinum-catalysed hydrosilylation reactions : from soluble to zeolite and MOF catalysts

2020

The Pt-catalysed addition of silanes to functional groups such as alkenes, alkynes, carbonyls and alcohols, i.e. the hydrosilylation reaction, is a fundamental transformation in industrial and academic chemistry, often claimed as the most important application of Pt catalysts in solution. However, the exact nature of the Pt active species and its mechanism of action is not well understood yet, particularly regarding regioselectivity. Here, experimental and computational studies together with an ad hoc graphical method show that the hydroaddition of alkynes proceeds through Pt-Si-H clusters of 3-5 atoms (metal(oid) association) in parts per million amounts (ppm), which decrease the energy of…
