Sharp capacity estimates for annuli in weighted R^n and in metric spaces

We obtain estimates for the nonlinear variational capacity of annuli in weighted R^n and in metric spaces. We introduce four different (pointwise) exponent sets, show that they all play fundamental roles for capacity estimates, and also demonstrate that whether an end point of an exponent set is attained or not is important. As a consequence of our estimates we obtain, for instance, criteria for points to have zero (resp. positive) capacity. Our discussion holds in rather general metric spaces, including Carnot groups and many manifolds, but it is just as relevant on weighted R^n. Trap-assisted spectroscopy with REXTRAP

International audience; As one of the fashionable techniques for nuclear spectroscopy experiments, the beam manipulation in gas-filled Penning traps permits the accurate measurement of some of the ground state properties of exotic nuclides. It was recently applied using REXTRAP for the measurement of the half-life of 38Ca, one of the 0+ → 0+ β-decaying nuclide of interest for the determination of the Ft value for super-allowed transitions, and the test of the unitarity of the CKM matrix. The experimental setup and the original method of beam purification adopted for this measurement is presented.

Through the tools of the representation this paper investigates a hypothetical virtual re-presentation of the metopes original polychromies. The reconstructive interpretative process was carried out through a critical reading of historical and iconographic sources. Starting from the reading of drawings made by Angell and Harris at the time of the archaeological finds, of Hittorff’s studies and watercolors, and of some coloured fragments still observable in the original metopes, the graphic elaborations that simulate the original polychromes have been prepared. The development of achievement strategies and academic skills during the first year of primary school

Abstract The aim of the study was to investigate whether children's achievement strategies would predict the development of their reading and mathematical skills during the first school year, or whether it is rather these skills that predict the changes in their achievement strategies. One-hundred and five 6- to 7-year-old children were examined three times during their first year of primary school: in each measurement, their self-reported achievement strategies were assessed, and their reading and mathematical skills were rated by their classroom teacher. Sequence of a sea urchin hsp70 gene and its 5' flanking region.

We report the nucleotide sequence of a 4470-bp fragment derived from a sea urchin genomic clone containing part of a heat-shock protein 70 (Hsp70)-encoding gene. This fragment, named hsp70 gene II, contains 1271 bp of the flanking region and 3299 bp of structural gene sequence interrupted by five introns and encoding the N-terminal 371 amino acids (aa) of the protein. The 5' flanking region contains a putative TATA element, two CCAAT boxes, four heat-shock consensus sequence elements (hse) and one consensus sequence for binding of Sp1. Remarkable homologies were observed for deduced aa sequence and intron-exon organization between hsp70 gene II and rat hsc73 gene.

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on tehdä näkyväksi millaisia ideologisia valintoja Suomen neljä suurinta puoluetta ovat tehneet eduskuntavaaliohjelmissaan suhteessa hyvinvointivaltiokansalaisuusdiskursseihin 1991 vuodesta alkaen. Tarkastelemme erityisesti vaaliohjelmissa tuotettuja kansalaisen poliittisia ja sosiaalisia oikeuksia ja velvollisuuksia sekä kansalaisen ja valtion välistä oikeudellinen sidettä ja sen legitimointia. Tarkastelemme puolueiden hyvinvointivaltiokansalaisuusdiskursseja pohjoismaisesta hyvinvointivaltiomallista käytävän kamppailun viitekehyksessä. Suomi ja kriittisen militarismitutkimuksen tarve

Esittelemme kriittistä militarismitutkimusta (engl. Critical Mfilitary Studies) ja tutkimuksellisia näkökulmia suomalaiseen militarismiin ja militarisaatioon. Pohdimme, millaisia ilmentymiä militarismi ja militarisaatio saavat Suomessa, ja hahmottelemme mahdollisia tulevan tutkimuksen suuntia. Pyrimme herättämään keskustelua suomalaisen yhteiskunnan militarisaatiosta, sotilaallisen vallan koskemattomuudesta sekä ekseptionalistisesta asemasta suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa. Tuomme esiin tarvetta kriittiselle militarismitutkimukselle avoimemman ja monipuolisemman sotilaallista valtaa koskevan keskustelun ja tutkimuksen edistämiseksi.
