Formation of a micropatterned titania photocatalyst by microcontact printed silicatein on gold surfaces

The enzyme silicatein has been bioengineered to carry a thiol-bearing Au-affinity tag (Cys-tag) for direct immobilization on gold carriers in shortest time without the need for prior surface functionalization. Through microcontact printing, defined silicatein micropatterns were created on gold surfaces, facilitating the subsequent enzymatically controlled synthesis of photocatalytically active TiO(2).

Abstract The SCL gene, also known astal-1, encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that is pivotal for the normal development of all hematopoietic lineages. SCL is expressed in committed erythroid, mast, and megakaryocytic cells as well as in hematopoietic stem cells. Nothing is known about the regulation of SCL transcription in mast cells, and in other lineages GATA-1 is the only tissue-specific transcription factor recognized to regulate the SCL gene. Physiological activation of the IgH 3' enhancer in B lineage cells is not blocked by Pax-5.

The mouse 3' enhancer contains a high-affinity binding site for the paired box protein Pax-5. Here, we demonstrate by genomic footprinting that the rat 3' enhancer contains a low-affinity binding site for Pax-5, which is occupied in activated splenic B cells. Thus, binding of Pax-5 to the IgH 3' enhancer appears to be evolutionarily conserved in rodents. Analysis of Pax-5 expression in primary B cells demonstrates that Pax-5 remains expressed after 4 days of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induction, but is down-regulated in 5-day stimulated cells. This is an analysis of the trajectory of one of the two great families of our Medieval and Renaissance flos sanctorum. This family is formed of three works: the handwritten Compilación B (an abridged version of the Legenda aurea of Iacopo da Varazze), the Flos Sanctorum con sus ethimologías (an incunabulum of unknown date and printer) and the Leyenda de los santos, a work that thrived with several editions published since the end of the 15th century until 1579. Se estudia en este artículo la producción impresa ilustrada de la época incunable del impresor burgalés Fadrique Biel, Alemán de Basilea. La casi totalidad de sus libros con láminas en su interior han sido copiados de ejemplares procedentes de las prensas zaragozanas de los Hurus, y unos pocos imitan impresos franceses de finales del siglo X V . Posiblemente mantuvo una competencia desleal con los talleres que le sirvieron de inspiración. La innovación de los entalladores y cinceladores de la imprenta burgalesa es escasa, por lo que se pone en duda la originalidad de las láminas de la Comedia de Calisto y Melibea.

ADHD and DAT1: Further evidence of paternal over-transmission of risk alleles and haplotype

Methylation status of VTRNA2-1/nc886 is stable across populations, monozygotic twin pairs and in majority of tissues.

Aims & methods: The aim of this study was to characterize the methylation level of a polymorphically imprinted gene, VTRNA2-1/nc886, in human populations and somatic tissues.48 datasets, consisting of more than 30 tissues and >30,000 individuals, were used. Results: nc886 methylation status is associated with twin status and ethnic background, but the variation between populations is limited. Monozygotic twin pairs present concordant methylation, whereas similar to 30% of dizygotic twin pairs present discordant methylation in the nc886 locus. Pancreatic islet transplantation is a promising advanced therapy that has been used to treat patients suffering from diabetes type 1. Traditionally, pancreatic islets are infused via the portal vein, which is subsequently intended to engraft in the liver. Severe immunosuppressive treatments are necessary, however, to prevent rejection of the transplanted islets.
