Direct analysis in real-time high-resolution mass spectrometry as a valuable tool for polyphenols profiling in olive oil
2018
A fast and reliable method to characterize the polyphenolic compound profiles in extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) has been developed using direct analysis in real time (DART) and linear ion-trap Orbitrap mass spectrometry (LTQ-Orbitrap-MS). Hydroalcoholic extraction increased speed and reduced matrix effects, and DART-MS/MS ensured accurate analysis. Characterization of polyphenol fingerprinting in EVOO samples takes 2 min. This method exhibited proper linearity (R2 ≥ 0.99) in the range of 5–2500 μg g−1, limit of detection (LOD) of 1.5 μg g−1 (signal-to noise S/N = 3), and limits of quantitation (LOQs) of 5 μg g−1 (S/N = 10) for resveratrol (a polyphenol not detected in olive oil). Six spiked …
Unambiguous recognizable two-dimensional languages
2006
We consider the family UREC of unambiguous recognizable two-dimensional languages. We prove that there are recognizable languages that are inherently ambiguous, that is UREC family is a proper subclass of REC family. The result is obtained by showing a necessary condition for unambiguous recognizable languages. Further UREC family coincides with the class of picture languages defined by unambiguous 2OTA and it strictly contains its deterministic counterpart. Some closure and non-closure properties of UREC are presented. Finally we show that it is undecidable whether a given tiling system is unambiguous.
Modeling and Simulation of Network-on-Chip Systems with DEVS and DEUS
2013
Networks on-chip (NoCs) provide enhanced performance, scalability, modularity, and design productivity as compared with previous communication architectures for VLSI systems on-chip (SoCs), such as buses and dedicated signal wires. Since the NoC design space is very large and high dimensional, evaluation methodologies rely heavily on analytical modeling and simulation. Unfortunately, there is no standard modeling framework. In this paper we illustrate how to design and evaluate NoCs by integrating the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) modeling framework and the simulation environment called DEUS. The advantage of such an approach is that both DEVS and DEUS support modularity—the fo…
Robotizētu procesu automatizācijas risinājumu piegāde
2019
Turpmākajā darba gaitā tiek pētītas gan atvērtā pirmkoda, gan maksas robotizētu procesu automatizācijas izstrādes platformas, izvērtējot to sn…
Models Versus Model Descriptions
2021
In the development of computer-based systems, modelling is often advocated in addition to programming, in that it helps in reflecting the application domain and that it makes the design and experiment activities of development more efficient. However, there is disagreement about what models are and how they can be used in software systems development. In this paper, we present the Scandinavian approach to modelling, which makes a clear distinction between models and model descriptions. This paper explains the connections between models, descriptions, systems, and executions. Combining the Scandinavian approach with the Kiel notion of model, we establish that both descriptions and executions…
Monitoring of the action of drugs in melanoma cells by dynamic laser speckle
2014
Abstract. This work presents the development of a protocol based on the dynamic laser speckle designed tomonitor the reaction of cancer cells of line MEL-RC08 to the application of the drug Colcemid in two differentconcentrations: 0.2 and 0.4 μg∕mL. The protocol was designed using the forward scattering approach with anHe-Ne laser of 632.8 nm illuminating the samples, a control, and two variations of Colcemid, being monitoredalong 8 h. The data were analyzed numerically in the time and in the frequency domain, and the results pre-sented the ability of the technique to monitor the action of the drug, particularly Colcemid (0.4 μg∕mL). © 2014Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers …
Hypoxia: Importance in tumor biology, noninvasive measurement by imaging, and value of its measurement in the management of cancer therapy
2006
The Cancer Imaging Program of the National Cancer Institute convened a workshop to assess the current status of hypoxia imaging, to assess what is known about the biology of hypoxia as it relates to cancer and cancer therapy, and to define clinical scenarios in which in vivo hypoxia imaging could prove valuable.Hypoxia, or low oxygenation, has emerged as an important factor in tumor biology and response to cancer treatment. It has been correlated with angiogenesis, tumor aggressiveness, local recurrence, and metastasis, and it appears to be a prognostic factor for several cancers, including those of the cervix, head and neck, prostate, pancreas, and brain. The relationship between tumor oxy…
Teacher orchestration of classroom interaction in science: exploring dialogic and authoritative passages in whole-class discussions
2019
Whereas science is fundamentally a result of a dialogic debate, the authoritative approach has been conceived of as a fundamental part of school science. Dialogic interactions encompass the mutual appreciation of different ideas manifested in teacher supportiveness toward students and, in authoritative interactions, the focus is more on the science’s or teacher’s point of view. Whereas dialogic and authoritative interactions have been viewed as oppositional in recent educational research, authoritative interactions could well be the seed for and give strength and meaning to dialogic interactions, and thus, to the overall dialogue. The focus in this study is on the interplay between authorit…

Dictogloss Language Listening comprehension Level Elementary upwards Age Any This is a well established dictation-based activity which helps to develop conscious listening skills in addition to an awareness of phrase and sentence structures. Procedure Choose a sentence suitable for the level of the class. This might be a sentence from a coursebook, but if so, make sure it is one which is not yet familiar to your students. An example sentence is given below. Tell the class that you will read this sentence to them once only. They should write down the key words as you read. You should not have to repeat the sentence, but with a large class you might like to read it once at the front of the ro…
Izšķirošās IKT izvēles nākamās digitālās dekādes robežšķirtnē Latvijas skolu izglītības politikas veidošanas sistēmā : promocijas darbs Vadības dokto…
2008
