Synthesis of methyl derivatives of linear and angular thienocoumarins and thiopyranocoumarins

New linear and angular thienocoumarins and thiopyranocoumarins were synthesized. The key intermediates were appropriate methyl derivatives of 7-mercaptocoumarin, which were condensed with chloro-ketones or propargyl chloride. Thioethers were cyclized under various conditions in order to determine which methods produced the best yields of the desired thienocoumarins 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24, 27 and thiopyranocoumarins 28 and 29.

Four series of oligo(1,4-phenyleneethynylene)s (OPEs), 1−4 (a−d), each having a terminal dialkylamino group as their electron donor, were prepared by applying Sonogashira−Hagihara reactions and a protecting group strategy. To study the influence that the push−pull effect has on the long-wavelength absorption, three of the four series of OPEs contain terminal acceptor groups (CN, CHO, NO2). Extending the conjugation (increasing the number of repeat units, n) lowers the energy E(n) of the electron transition in the purely donor-substituted series 1a−4a (bathochromic shift). Elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations ([CO2]) might change the abundance and the function of soil microorganisms in the depth profile of agricultural soils by plant-mediated reactions. The seasonal pattern of abundance and activity of nitrate-reducing bacteria was studied in a Mini-FACE experiment planted with oilseed rape (Brassica napus). Three depths (0–10, 10–20 and 20–30 cm) were sampled. Approximation of pore space with ellipsoids: a comparison of a geometrical method with a statistical one.

International audience; We work with tomographic images of pore space in soil. The images have large dimensions and so in order to speed-up biological simulations (as drainage or diffusion process in soil), we want to describe the pore space with a number of geometrical primitives significantly smaller than the number of voxels in pore space. In this paper, we use the curve skeleton of a volume to segment it into some regions. We describe the method to compute the curve skeleton and to segment it with a simple segment approximation. We approximate each obtained region with an ellipsoid. The set of final ellipsoids represents the geometry of pore space and will be used in future simulations.…
