The Pythagoreans and the Therapeutic Effects of the Paean between Religion, Paideia and Politics
2016
The interest of the Early Pythagoreans in musical speculation appears in literary sources as strictly linked with religion and education. The use of paeans for healing and calming both rage and anger among the Pythagoreans (see for instance Iamblichus, De vita pythagorica 110; Porphyrius, Vita Pythagorae 30) shows that catharsis was meant within such groups as a “purification” from every kind of excess in which religion, medicine and ethics were blended together in order to provide a harmonious order within the individuals. Music and musical education in Pythagorean communities had also a “political” role, since they were intended to foster social order.
La musicoterapia nella Grecia antica
2007
Music in ancient Greece was believed to heal both the soul and the body, and especially to soothe wrath and low spirits. According to the ethos theory, music has a prominent role in the education of the young people. With both its medical and magic connotations, the notion of musical catharsis is involved in the performance of music and dance in the Dionysiac rites. The medical thought on music therapy is mainly linked with theories concerning the pulse, where musicology and medicine share a common ground.

Eveiller et réguler un prince et un peuple nouveaux : la « Constitution morale » des Plutarques brésiliens
2020
After the independence proclaimed in 1822, Brazil sought to build an identity that would allow it to be among the great nations of the world. To this end, a whole educational literature was created, supporting the numerous newspapers that used the freedom of the press, acquired in 1821, to perfect the political education of their compatriots, while at the same time inviting the very young Emperor D. Pedro (born in 1798) to become the model for his people for centuries to come. All then had faith in the influence of the public virtues of the prince on the private and civic virtues of the people; all feared the inadequacy between the Political Constitution, granted in 1824, and the real const…

L'educazione: una mappa storica e geografica
2017
This Lesson presents an empirical-historical inquiry about education as an universal human phenomenon. Many of the educations that humanity has realized during its evolution, from prehistory to today, are identified. These educational practices have been realized within specific geographic and historical coordinates.
Forma di vita e relazione educativa
2015
The aim of this paper is to show that the main object of pedagogical research is relationship among people who share the same context. The analysis follows a linguistic approach, from a theoretical and metaphysical kind of language to a language of forms of life. After the linguistic turn, particularly in Ludwig Wittgenstein, forsaking a Platonic language means throwing language in forms of life, and blending it with people and their lives. So an educational process has to leave the unique, traditional pattern to open itself to different voices of life.
Colonie, Imperi e Migrazioni. Un inquadramento postcoloniale dell'Europa multiculturale
2012
The article considers the multicultural roots of the European Union from a postcolonial perspective. Therefore, European history is outlined from colonialism to imperialism, concluding with recent regulations on international migration. The etymology of the terms colony and culture, both derived from the Latin verb colĕre (to cultivate), is the link that connects these themes, highlighting a conception of the relationship between Europeans and the otherness based on exploitation and domination. Through this view, differential colonialism merges with social self representation (antropopoiesi) inherent in the concepts of culture and education and already disclosed by the Greek paideia.
