The subject of this article is an analysis of the representation of the nineteenth century in Václav Vokolek’s multithreaded prose work Dominový efekt. The article analyses the novel Cesta do pekel written by Václav Vokolek – the Czech prose writer, poet and painter – through the usage of the intersemiotic translation strategies. The plot of the text can be characterized as the contamination of the physically plausible historic world (the construction of the railway in the middle of the 19th century) with the implausible one (the infernal story) according to Lubomír Doležel’s typology. Demonstrating the changes in the arts (the clash of romanticism with realism), the novelist sensitizes the reader to the drastic introversion into nature, as exemplifi ed by the urbanization processes in the north of the Czech Republic. Este trabajo analiza la figura de Segunda Martínez de Robles, pintora, traductora y escritora de la novela Las españolas náufragas o Correspondencia de dos amigas (1831). La autora refiere en ese texto algunos hechos con claras referencias autobiográficas. Identification by GC-FID and GC-MS of amino acids, fatty and bile acids in binding media used in works of art.

GC-FID was used as single methodology for the identification and differentiation of proteins, lipids and ox bile from binders used in artistic paintings. The samples were hydrolyzed by HCl. Subsequently, the simultaneous formation of volatile derivatives of the amino, fatty and bile acids with ethyl chloroformate was performed quickly and safely in an aqueous medium. The derivatives were separated by capillary GC and characterized by GC-MS. The ageing of drying oils was studied, identifying pelargonic acid among other degradation products. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry characterization of historical varnishes of ancient Italian lutes and violin

The organic constituents of historical vanishes from two ancient Italian lutes and a Stradivari violin, kept in the Musée de la musique in Paris, have been characterized using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Results have been compared with the chromatograms and mass spectra of recent as well as old naturally aged reference materials. The three historical varnishes analyzed have been shown to be oil varnishes, probably mixtures of linseed oil with resins. Identification of diterpenoids and triterpenoids compounds, and of the resins that may have been ingredients of the varnishes, are discussed in this paper.
