The Role of Financial and Managerial Variables on the Policy towards Home-grown Players in English Soccer
2012
The training and development of young players both as athletes and individuals is one of the task soccer governing bodies assign to professional soccer team in order to fully exploit the social aspects of sport activities. Recently UEFA imposed new rules to improve the use of home-grown players. We analyze a panel data of English Premier and Championship league clubs for the seasons 2001-02 to 2005-06 in order to understand what clubs characteristics lead to the employment of young players in the team during official matches. Sport commercialization and the employment of star players have been considered harmful to this role. Our findings suggest that, counter-intuitively, economic and comm…
Instrumental and sensory evaluation of eating quality of peaches and nectarines
2012
The influence of flesh firmness on consumer acceptance and its relationship with total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity (TTA) and sensory analysis were studied for fruits of ‘September Sun’ and ‘Sweet September’ (low acid) peach (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch), and ‘Maria Dolce’ (low acid) and ‘Venus’ nectarine (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch, var. nucipersica) cultivars. Sensory descriptors, assessed by a short-trained panel, were firmness, sweetness, sourness, aroma, acceptability. Different stages of fruit firmness did not always result in significant differences of TSS, TTA and their ratio, but the panel was able to discriminate fruit ripening stages, in terms of fruit firmness, aroma …
Implementation of a gene panel for the genetic diagnosis of primary ciliary dyskinesia
2020
Background: Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a disease characterized by an alteration in the ciliary structure that causes an abnormal clearance of respiratory secretions. Its diagnosis is complex and is based on a combination of different techniques. The objective of this study was to design a gene panel including all known caustive genes, and to verify the utility for diagnostic in a cohort of Spanish patients. Methods: Multicenter cross-sectional study of patients with high suspicion of PCD, applying the criteria of the European Respiratory Society. Design a gene panel for mass sequencing with SeqCap EZ technology, including 44 PCD-related genes. Results: 79 patients were included, 53…
Implementation of a gene panel for genetic diagnosis of primary ciliary dyskinesia
2021
Abstract Introduction Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is characterized by an alteration in the ciliary structure causing difficulty in the clearance of respiratory secretions. Diagnosis is complex and based on a combination of techniques. The objective of this study was to design a gene panel including all known causative genes, and to corroborate their diagnostic utility in a cohort of Spanish patients. Methods This was a multicenter cross-sectional study of patients with a high suspicion of PCD according to European Respiratory Society criteria. We designed a gene panel for massive sequencing using SeqCap EZ capture technology that included 44 genes associated with PCD. Results We includ…
No public value without a valued public
2017
This study aims to enlighten the controversial discussion about the term public value in an innovative way. Instead of normative pronouncements and paternalistic posits, this study combines a theoretical, literature-based conception with an empirical quantitative approach. For this, the key term, public value, is split into its constituent parts of customer value and citizen value and is transformed into measurable attributes. By means of a choice-based conjoint analysis on panel data for Germany and the United Kingdom, we explore which performance attributes of public service broadcasters are the most important. Based on the results, we create a conception of public value from the perspect…
A Macroeconomic Analysis of Regional Migration in Finland, 1975-95
1999
This study analyzes regional migration in the 85 Finnish subregions during the period 1975-95 using data on net in-migration rates. Both cross-section and panel data methods are employed. The regression analysis reveals that the direction of net in-migration flows can be explained by a set of regionally differing characteristics. Unemployment rates, tax rates, and the share of primary production affect net in-migration negatively, whereas the share of higher education and the growth of regional incomes have a positive effect. This indicates that regional disparities may not be alleviated by migration, but there is some evidence for a cumulative causation growth pattern induced by net in-mig…
Heterogeneous salt distribution in hot snacks enhances saltiness without loss of acceptability
2013
clef UT: 000318667000026; International audience; Abstract Health issues have led worldwide organisations to encourage the food industry to reduce salt in processed foods. Therefore, different strategies for salt reduction have been investigated. Here, the effect of heterogeneous salt distribution on saltiness perception intensity was assessed to compensate for salt reduction in snack foods. Two models of hot-served baked foods were developed. One model is made of two layers that vary in composition (cream-based and cereal-based layers) and salt (NaCl) concentration; the other one is made of four cream-based layers that vary in salt concentrations. Consumer panels rated the saltiness intens…
Climate variability, innovation and firm performance: evidence from the European agricultural sector
2021
Abstract It is generally accepted that adaptation to climate variability requires a technological advancement strategy. However, the innovation process has received little explicit consideration in this framework. We employ a panel endogenous switching regression model to explore whether and to what extent climate variability affects firm performance through the ability to induce the development of adaptation innovations in key resource-based sectors in Europe during the period 2007–2017. Our findings confirm that the knowledge generation process at the heart of climate change adaptation technologies enhances firm performance, especially for firms in the aquaculture and fishing sub-sectors …
Crime Analysis of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile: A Spatial Panel Data Approach
2022
The aim of our work is to determine the influence that socio-economic and demographic factors have had on crimes that have taken place during the period 2010–2018 in the communes of the Metropolitan Region of Chile, as well as the existence of possible spatial or temporal effects. We address 12 kinds of crime that we have grouped into two main types: against people and against property. Our interest focuses on crimes against people, using crimes against property as an additional covariate in order to investigate the existence of the broken-windows phenomenon in this context. The model chosen for our analysis is a spatial panel model with fixed effects. The results highlight that covariates …

The castle's Hermitage of Yecla (Region of Murcia) constituted during the 13th to 16th centuries the first parish of the population, hosting a triptych-shaped altarpiece presided over by a tempera painting on wood of Our Lady of Humility or "Virgo Lactans", dated around 1370 and attributed to the painter Barnaba da Modena, which was the titular image of the mentioned temple under the title of Our Lady of the Incarnation, until at the end of the 18th century it changed ownership for the Conception of Our Lady. The table at averages of the eight hundred was placed in an a loft, appropriating it at the beginning of the 20th century by the retired military Pascual Spuche y Lacy, who sold it aro…
