Die Wirkung von Theophyllin, Coffein und Theobromin auf Kontraktionskraft, Erregbarkeit, Refraktrzeit und Spontanfrequenz des isolierten Herzmuskels…
1956
In the electrically driven papillary muscle of the cat's right ventricle theophylline, caffeine and theobromine exerted a positive inotropic action. Log. dose-effect regression lines for the three drugs were parallel; the effect of theophylline was significantly greater than those of caffeine and theobromine. The range of concentrations used was 1/32–1/2 mM/1.
Die Reversibilität der Wirkung von Digitoxin, Strophanthidin und Strophanthidin-3-bromazetat am Papillarmuskel und einer mikrosomalen Na+-K+-aktivier…
1969
The reversibility of the inhibitory action of strophanthidin, strophanthidin-3-bromoacetate, and digitoxin on the Na+-K+-ATPase activity (microsomal fraction, guinea-pig brain) was compared with the rate of decline of their positive inotropic effects (papillary muscle, guinea-pig heart) after exposure to drug-free solution. The actions of strophanthidin and digitoxin were easily reduced on both systems. Strophanthidin-3-bromoacetate, however, was found to have an irreversible blocking effect on the transport ATPase, whereas its inotropic action could be rapidly abolished.
Differential proteomic and phenotypic behaviour of papillary and anaplastic thyroid cell lines.
2013
Abstract Thyroid carcinomas account for a minority of all malignant tumours but, after those of the gonads, they represent the most common forms of endocrine cancers. They include several types, among which the papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) and the anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) are the best known. The two hystotypes display significant biological and clinical differences: PTC is a well differentiated form of tumour with a high incidence and a good prognosis, while the ATC is less frequent but represents one of the most aggressive endocrine tumours with morphological features of an undifferentiated type. To date, as far as we know, no conclusive studies, useful to design arrays of molecul…
Papillary muscle relocation and mitral annuloplasty in ischemic mitral valve regurgitation: midterm results.
2014
Objectives The surgical approach for ischemic mitral regurgitation remains unclear. Many studies are in favor of adding the subvalvular procedure to mitral annuloplasty to reduce recurrent mitral regurgitation. This study reports the clinical and echocardiographic outcomes of papillary muscle relocation combined with mitral annuloplasty. Methods From 2003, 115 patients with severe ischemic mitral regurgitation who underwent papillary muscle relocation plus nonrestrictive mitral annuloplasty and coronary artery bypass grafting were retrospective analyzed. Patients' mean age was 52 ± 12.8 years, New York Heart Association class III or IV was 71%, and preoperative left ventricular ejection frac…
Mitral valve annuloplasty and papillary muscle relocation oriented by 3-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography for severe functional mitral reg…
2012
Objective The study of the mitral valve apparatus and its modifications during functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) is better revealed by 3-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TOE). To plan mitral valve repair by annuloplasty and papillary muscle (PPM) relocation, we proposed a valve repair procedure oriented by the new main features obtained by real-time 3D TOE reconstruction of the mitral valve apparatus. Methods Since January 2008, 25 patients with severe FMR before mitral valve repair were examined. Mean coaptation depth and mean tenting area were 1.3 ± 0.2 cm and 3.2 ± 0.5 cm 2 , respectively. Intraoperative 2D and 3D TOE were performed, followed by a 3D offline reconst…
Survival of 86,690 patients with thyroid cancer: A population-based study in 29 European countries from EUROCARE-5
2017
Background: Incidence rates of thyroid cancer (TC) increased in several countries during the last 30 years, while mortality rates remained unchanged, raising important questions for treatment and follow-up of TC patients. This study updates population-based estimates of relative survival (RS) after TC diagnosis in Europe by sex, country, age, period and histology. Methods: Data from 87 cancer registries in 29 countries were extracted from the EUROCARE-5 dataset. One-and 5-year RS were estimated using the cohort approach for 86,690 adult TC patients diagnosed in 2000-2007 and followed-up to 12/31/2008. RS trends in 1999-2007 and 10-year RS in 2005-2007 were estimated using the period approach…
Increased thyroid cancer incidence in a basaltic volcanic area is associated with non-anthropogenic pollution and biocontamination
2016
The increased thyroid cancer incidence in volcanic areas suggests an environmental effect of volcanic-originated carcinogens. To address this problem, we evaluated environmental pollution and biocontamination in a volcanic area of Sicily with increased thyroid cancer incidence. Thyroid cancer epidemiology was obtained from the Sicilian Regional Registry for Thyroid Cancer. Twenty-seven trace elements were measured by quadrupole mass spectrometry in the drinking water and lichens (to characterize environmental pollution) and in the urine of residents (to identify biocontamination) in the Mt. Etna volcanic area and in adjacent control areas. Thyroid cancer incidence was 18.5 and 9.6/10(5) inh…
OCT-Angiography evaluation of peripapillary microvascular changes after rhegmatogenous retinal detachment repair
2021
Purpose: To evaluate the radial peripapillary capillary plexus (RPCP) vessel density (VD) and the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in eyes successfully treated with pars plana vitrectomy for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Methods: In this cross-sectional multicenter clinical study, eyes with a minimum 12-month follow-up were reexamined. The RPCP VD and RNFL thickness in the rhegmatogenous retinal detachment subfields of the affected eye (study group) were compared with the corresponding areas of the healthy fellow eyes (control group). Results: Fifty-three eyes were included in the study. A significantly lower RPCP VD and RNFL thickness were observed in those subfields…
