Neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinosis--late-infantile or Jansky-Bielschowsky type--revisited.
1996
Among the now eight genetic types of neuronal ceroid-lipofuscinoses (NCL), CLN1 to CLN8, CLN2 is considered classic late-infantile NCL. It was originally described by Janský in a family of eight children with four of them affected [Janský J (1908) Sborn Lek 13:165-196] and, subsequently, by Bielschowsky in a family of three children each of whom was affected, and, hence, termed Janský-Bielschowsky type of NCL. Earlier, archival studies of Bielschowsky's original post-mortem tissue blocks had documented accumulation of autofluorescent lipopigments with a curvilinear ultrastructure. In a subsequent study, described here, immunohistochemical absence of the CLN2-related lysosomal enzyme tripept…
Novel ruthenium methylcyclopentadienyl complex bearing a bipyridine perfluorinated ligand shows strong activity towards colorectal cancer cells
2017
Three new compounds have been synthesized and completely characterized by analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The new bipyridine-perfluorinated ligand L1 and the new organometallic complex [Ru(η 5 -MeCp)(PPh 3 ) 2 Cl] (Ru1) crystalize in the centrosymmetric triclinic space group P1¯. Analysis of the phenotypic effects induced by both organometallic complexes Ru1 and [Ru(η 5 -MeCp)(PPh 3 )(L1)][CF 3 SO 3 ] (Ru2), on human colorectal cancer cells (SW480 and RKO) survival, showed that Ru2 has a potent anti-proliferative activity, 4–6 times higher than cisplatin, and induce apoptosis in these cells. Data obtained in a noncancerous cell line derived from normal colon epithelial cells (NCM46…
Chemical composition of volatile and fixed oils from of Salvia argentea L. (Lamiaceae) growing wild in Sicily.
2015
The chemical compositions of the essential oil and of the non-polar extracts (petroleum ether, dichloromethane) of the aerial parts (flowers, leaves and stems) of Salvia argentea L. were determined by GC-FID and gas chromatographyâmass spectrometry analysis. 14-Hydroxy-α-humulene (40.1%) was recognised as the main constituents of the essential oil of S. argentea, together with 1,3,8-p-menthatriene (12.1%), globulol (7.4%) and β-sesquiphellandrene (5.8%). Tritriacontane (9.9% and 14.1%), heptacosane (8.4% and 10.5%), hentriacontane (8.3% and 10.9%), tetradecanal (8.4% and 10.2%) and methyldotriacontane (7.9% and 7.6%) were recognised as the main constituents of the extracts in petroleum …
Theoretical calculation of the vibrational spectra of cis-cis-cyclooctadienes in the vapour phase.
2000
The theoretical infrared spectra of 1,3-cis-cis-cyclooctadiene (1,3-COD) and 1,5-cis-cis-cyclooctadiene (1,5-COD), were obtained by ab initio MO calculations at Hartree-Fock level. The results were compared with the available IR experimental spectra of 1,3- and 1,5-COD. The apparent agreement between theoretical and experimental data allows us to exploit two bands, found only in the case of the theoretical spectrum of 1,4-COD, as a tool for identifying 1,4-COD during its synthesis.
Improved section bonding using silanated glass slides--application protocol.
1992
Silanated slides provide excellent tissue adhesion for routine histology, immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization of frozen, paraffin embedded material or cell smears. An easy and inexpensive method of treating glass microscope slides with triethoxysilylpropylamine is reported.
Preliminary study on analysis and removal of wax from a Carrara marble statue
2015
This preliminary study has mainly focused on the wax identification by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and removal. Wax is used for many purposes in the field of art as protective coatings on wooden, stone or metal objects. From the comparison of the spectra H NMR and in particular with the correspondence of the resonance peaks of the samples taken from the statue and beeswax and paraffin, we can conclude that the wax applied on the statue surface is beeswax. From our data, it can be concluded that, to remove the beeswax, from any stone support, the more effective solvent is the mixture of cyclohexane/ethyl acetate. The removal percentages ranged from 19 to 99%. Lower percentages of remova…
Prognostic Impact of let-7e MicroRNA and Its Target Genes in Localized High-Risk Intestinal GIST: A Spanish Group for Research on Sarcoma (GEIS) Study
2020
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that negatively regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, and they have been described as being associated with tumor prognosis. Here, miRNA profiling was planned to explore new molecular prognostic biomarkers in localized intestinal high-risk GIST. Paraffin tumor blocks of 14 and 86 patients were used in the discovery and expansion sets, respectively. GeneChip miRNA v3.0 was employed to identify the miRNAs differentially expressed between relapsed and non-relapsed patient samples, which were validated in the expansion set, by qRT-PCR. RT2 Profiler PCR Array was used for the screening of let-7e targets. Expression levels were co…
Localization of the bradykinin B2 receptor in uterus, bladder and Madin-Darby canine kidney cells
1997
Kinins are biologically active peptides that act through specific receptors, B1 and B2. Here we describe the localization of the bradykinin B2 receptor in Madin-Darby canine kidney cells and in the uterus and urinary bladder of rat or human origin. We discuss the suitability of anti-peptide antibodies to assess the tissue distribution of bradykinin B2 receptors.
