Parallel macro pipelining on the intel SCC many-core computer

2013

In this paper we present how Intel's Single-Chip-Cloud processor behaves for parallel macro pipeline applications. Subsets of the SCC's available cores can be arranged as a pipeline where each core processes one stage of the overall workload. Each of the independent cores processes a small part of a larger task and feeds the following core with new data after it finishes its work. Our case-study is a parallel rendering system which renders successive images and applies different filters on them. On normal graphics adapters this is usually done in multiple cycles, we do this in a single pipeline pass. We show that we can achieve a significant speedup by using multiple parallel pipelines on t…

SIMULATING SPIN MODELS ON GPU: A TOUR

2012

The use of graphics processing units (GPUs) in scientific computing has gathered considerable momentum in the past five years. While GPUs in general promise high performance and excellent performance per Watt ratios, not every class of problems is equally well suitable for exploiting the massively parallel architecture they provide. Lattice spin models appear to be prototypic examples of problems suitable for this architecture, at least as long as local update algorithms are employed. In this review, I summarize our recent experience with the simulation of a wide range of spin models on GPU employing an equally wide range of update algorithms, ranging from Metropolis and heat bath updates,…

Kocioł Ezechiela (Ez 24,1-14) w świetle retoryki hebrajskiej

2021

A novel RNA-binding motif in influenza A virus non-structural protein 1.

1997

The solution NMR structure of the RNA-binding domain from influenza virus non-structural protein 1 exhibits a novel dimeric six-helical protein fold. Distributions of basic residues and conserved salt bridges of dimeric NS1(1-73) suggest that the face containing antiparallel helices 2 and 2′ forms a novel arginine-rich nucleic acid binding motif.

Advances in the enumeration of foldable self-avoiding walks

2020

<font color="#336633"&gtSelf-avoiding walks (SAWs) have been studied for a long time due to their intrinsic importance and the many application fields in which they operate. A new subset of SAWs, called foldable SAWs, has recently been discovered when investigating two different SAW manipulations embedded within existing protein structure prediction (PSP) software. Since then, several attempts have been made to find out more about these walks, including counting them. However, calculating the number of foldable SAWs appeared as a tough work, and current supercomputers fail to count foldable SAWs of length exceeding ≈ 30 steps. In this article, we present new progress in this enumeration, bo…

Introduction: A New Look at the Origins of Economic Growth and Regional Inequality

2018

The contributions to this special issue share important themes and methodologies in their quest to explicate economic development and its effects. Nonetheless, each area under examination has its own peculiarities and warrants its own scope of analysis. The result is a special issue that pursues an innovative line of research, exploring parallels and contrasts in economic growth and inequality based on new data at the regional, rather than simply the national, level. The authors are grateful to the following institutions for their financial support of the research in this special issue of The Journal of Interdisciplinary History: (1) European Union (EU— Jean Monnet Action); (2) ICREA—Genera…

Rodrigo de Mendoza, I Marqués del Cenete y I Conde del Cid: paralelismos entre su biografía y su pretendida genealogía = Rodrigo de Mendoza, First Ma…

2018

Folding induced supramolecular assembly into pH-responsive nanorods with a protein repellent shell

2018

We report the synthesis of ABA' triblock peptide-polysarcosine-peptide conjugates featuring two complementary phenylalanine-histidine pentapeptide strands A/A'. These sequences encode for antiparallel beta-sheet formation into folded conjugates, which promote the self-assembly into polysarcosine-shielded core-shell nanorods. These do not cause aggregation of serum proteins in human blood plasma underlining an enhanced stability.
