Comparative study of the determinants of the effectiveness of educational policies of inclusion in France and Cameroon from the point of view of teac…

2014

Considering the fact that inclusive education is an international recommendation (UNESCO, 2008; 2006; 2000; 1994); Framework for Action on Education for All, (2000); Millennium Development Goals (2000), Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006)) , educational policies, both in the countries of the North and those in the South , more or less clearly take into account the educational needs of certain groups including children with disabilities. Considering also that teachers appear as key role players in the success of inclusive education related to children with disabilities (Asrat Dagnew, 2013), (Ngo Mélha, 2013; 2011), ( Kabano , 2001); Bothma M. & al.,2000) , it is judi…

Design Optimization Automation for Luminaire Reflectors Using COMSOL Multiphysics and Performance Comparison Against Zemax Opticstudio

2019

This work showcases the complete design pipeline based on COMSOL Multiphysics for one of the luminaire models manufactured by Vizulo. Generation of optimization targets, ray tracing models and utilized optimization algorithms are described. The authors also evaluate the performance of COMSOL against Zemax OpticStudio Premium, a specialized optics design suite widely used by the optics industry. Out-of-the-box version of both packages are tested: ray tracing and optimization performance are compared. It is found that, while OpticStudio' ray tracer is by far superior, OpticStudio is greatly outperformed by COMSOL in optimization tasks for considered problems. Other aspects of both packages ar…

: National contexts, organisation of educational systems and inequalities between pupils : the PISA enquiry contribution

2003

This paper, after having described both mean scores and dispersion of the different countries integrated in PISA last study, put together those "products" with economic and cultural characteristics of the countries considered. It explores also the relationship between the pupils'scores and some institutional characteristicis of the educational systems. Results show that pupils'scores follow some geographical patterns, and also that some relations exist between scores and some institutional or pedagogical practices such as repeating or tracking.

Employment effects of skills around the world: Evidence from the PIAAC

2020

Using an international survey that directly assesses the cognitive skills of participants, the author studies the effect of skills on employment in 32 countries. On average, a 1 standard deviation increase in numeracy is associated with an 8.4 percentage point increase in the probability of being employed, reducing the probability of being out of the labour force and unemployed by 6.4 and 2.1 percentage points, respectively. After controlling for numeracy, the estimated employment effect of years in education falls by one third, from 2.7 to 1.8 percentage points. Notably, the employment effect of skills is more pronounced in countries with higher unemployment.

Engaging in upward and downward comparisons as a determinant of relative deprivation at work

2003

A longitudinal study was conducted among 93 nurses to determine the role of comparing one's performance with that of one's colleagues in the increase versus decrease of perceived relative deprivation at work over a period of one year. Relative deprivation at T2 had increased particularly among those high in social comparison orientation (Gibbons & Buunk, 1999) who at T1 (1) more frequently engaged in upward comparisons; (2) more frequently derived positive as well as negative feelings from such comparisons; and (3) more frequently derived negative feelings from downward comparison. Moreover, engaging in downward comparison also led to an increase in perceived relative deprivation at T2.…

Comparison of stir bar sorptive extraction in the liquid and vapour phases, solvent-assisted flavour evaporation and headspace solid-phase microextra…

2017

The volatile fraction plays an important role on the organoleptic properties and overall acceptability of fruit juices. This work reports for first time a non-targeted approach for the analysis of the volatile fraction of fruit juice by stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE[1]) in liquid and vapour phase (HSSE[2]) at three extraction times (30, 60, and 120 min), two temperatures (room temperature and 40 °C), and two sample volumes (5 and 10 mL). The resultant volatile profiles were compared with solvent-assisted flavour evaporation (SAFE[3]) and headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME[4]). SBSE and HSSE enabled the detection and identification of more compounds than HS-SPME and less tha…

LES VARIATIONS DU NIVEAU MARIN SUR LE BASSIN DE PARIS AU BATHONIEN-CALLOVIEN. IMPACTS SUR LES COMMUNAUTÉS BENTHIQUES ET SUR L'ÉVOLUTION DES ORNITHELL…

1992

The study deals with the biological impacts of sea-Ievel changes on evolution of a Jurassic benthic fossil group (Ornithellida, Brachiopoda). The different time and scale at which the shifts in marine environments occur leads to the recognition of three interacting dynamic systems: environmental, communities, populations dynamics. The analysis is thus divided into a three steps hierarchy: sequence stratigraphy, analysis of the diversity of brachiopod assemblages, and analysis of morphological variations within omithellid populations. Sequence stratigraphy of the Dogger marly and carbonate successions in the Paris basin provides accurate correlations of depositional environments from shallow…

Influence of formalin fixation on the biomechanical properties of human diaphyseal bone.

2010

Owing to the lack of fresh human bones, formalin-fixed specimens are frequently used in biomechanical testing. However, formalin fixation is assumed to affect the biomechanical properties of bone. The aim of this study was to compare axial and torsional stiffness and bone mineral density in fresh and embalmed human bones. The subtrochanteric regions of 12 pairs of fresh human femora were randomised into two groups for paired comparison. After bone mineral density measurement, one group was preserved in 4% formalin. After 6 weeks, bone mineral density was remeasured and each specimen underwent axial and torsional loading. The formalin group showed significant higher stiffness values for tors…
