It describes the negotiations, interactions and strategies deployed in the process, as well as the actors involved and the subjective effects it has on the students. Despite significant academic research undertaken in the field of venture capital decision-making process, the dimension and maturity of equity market has not yet been considered as an important contextual factor. This chapter, by referring to the gender-violence binomial, highlights some of the dynamics between “resistant victims” and “proximate perpetrators” which characterize proximity violence. It presents the results of research consisting in participant observation of 18 sub-Saharan women residing in refugee facilities located in western Sicily and 16 non-directive interviews, from which three cases have been extracted.

Based on participant observation of editors’ decisions for a sociology journal, the paper investigates the peer review process. It shows a hidden interactivity in peer review, which is overlooked both by authors who impute social causes to unwelcome decisions, and by the preoccupation with ‘reliability’ prevalent in peer review research.
