Searches for sleptons and squarks in e(+)e(-) collisions at 189 GeV

The data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 188.6 GeV by ALEPH at LEP, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 173.6 pb$^{-1}$, are analysed in a search for the scalar partners of quarks and leptons predicted in supersymmetric models. No evidence for any such particles was found in the decay channels $\sle \to \ell \chi$, $\stop \rightarrow \mathrm{c}\neu$, $\stop \rightarrow \mathrm{b}\ell\snu$, $\sbot \rightarrow \mathrm{b}\neu$, and $\mathrm{\tilde{q}} \rightarrow \mathrm{q}\neu$. Improved mass lower limits have been obtained in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model.

A measurement of Rb using mutually exclusive tags

A measurement of R-b using five mutually exclusive hemisphere tags has been performed by ALEPH using the full LEP1 statistics. Three tags are designed to select the decay of the Z(0) to b quarks, while the remaining two select Z(0) decays to c and light quarks, and are used to measure the tagging efficiencies. The result, R-b = 0.2159 +/- 0.0009(stat) +/-0.0011(syst), is in agreement with the electroweak theory prediction of 0.2158 +/- 0.0003. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Finite-size scaling of vector and axial current correlators

Using quenched chiral perturbation theory, we compute the long-distance behaviour of two-point functions of flavour non-singlet axial and vector currents in a finite volume, for small quark masses, and at a fixed gauge-field topology. We also present the corresponding predictions for the unquenched theory at fixed topology. These results can in principle be used to measure the low-energy constants of the chiral Lagrangian, from lattice simulations in volumes much smaller than one pion Compton wavelength. We show that quenching has a dramatic effect on the vector correlator, which is argued to vanish to all orders, while the axial correlator appears to be a robust observable only moderately …

Semi-leptonic Decays of Heavy Flavours on a Fine Grained Lattice

We present the results of a numerical calculation of semi-leptonic form factors relevant for heavy flavour meson decays into light mesons, at $\beta=6.4$ on a $24^3 \times 60$ lattice, using the Wilson action in the quenched approximation. We obtain $f^+_K(0)=0.65\pm 0.18$, $V(0)=0.95\pm 0.34$, $A_1(0)=0.63\pm 0.14 $ and $A_2(0)=0.45\pm 0.33 $. We also obtain $A_1(q^2_{max})=0.62\pm 0.09$, $V(0)/A_1(0)=1.5\pm 0.28 $ and $A_2(0)/A_1(0)=0.7\pm 0.4$. The results for $f^+_K(0)$, $V(0)$ and $A_1(0)$ are consistent with the experimental data and with previous lattice determinations with larger lattice spacings. Search for W′ boson production in the W′→tb¯ decay channel

We present a search for the production of a new heavy gauge boson W' that decays to a top quark and a bottom quark. We have analyzed 230 pb(-1) of data collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. No significant excess of events above the standard model expectation is found in any region of the final state invariant mass distribution. We set upper limits on the production cross section of W' bosons times branching ratio to top quarks at the 95% confidence level for several different W, boson masses. Two-loop gluino corrections to the inclusive decayB→Xsγin theCPviolating MSSM with largetanβ

We investigate two-loop gluino corrections to the effective Lagrangian for b{yields}s+{gamma}(g) in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model (MSSM) at large tan{beta}, including the contributions in which quark flavor change is mediated by charginos. Using the translation invariance of loop momenta and the Ward-Takahashi identities that are required by the SU(3){sub c}xU(1){sub em} gauge invariance, we simplify our expressions to concise forms. As an example, we discuss two-loop gluino corrections to the CP asymmetry of inclusive B{yields}X{sub s}{gamma} decay in CP violating MSSM.

Non-perturbative renormalization of the quark condensate in Ginsparg-Wilson regularizations

We present a method to compute non-perturbatively the renormalization constant of the scalar density for Ginsparg-Wilson fermions. It relies on chiral symmetry and is based on a matching of renormalization group invariant masses at fixed pseudoscalar meson mass, making use of results previously obtained by the ALPHA Collaboration for O(a)-improved Wilson fermions. Our approach is quite general and enables the renormalization of scalar and pseudoscalar densities in lattice regularizations that preserve chiral symmetry and of fermion masses in any regularization. Nonperturbative renormalization in coordinate space

We present an exploratory study of a gauge-invariant non-perturbative renormalization technique. The renormalization conditions are imposed on correlation functions of composite operators in coordinate space on the lattice. Numerical results for bilinears obtained with overlap and O(a)-improved Wilson fermions are presented. The measurement of the quark condensate is also discussed.
