Study of the dynamics of biomolecules by high speed atomic force microscopy and surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy

2015

This thesis focuses on the coupling of High–Speed Atomic Force Microscopy (HS-AFM) and Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) for biomolecule analysis. We have designed a fabrication protocol to manufacture “SERS-active” substrates. The efficacy of gold, silver and gold-silver bimetallic crystalline nanoparticle substrates were evaluated. We have investigated the impact of optical and morphological features of the substrates on Raman signal intensity by analyzing well-known samples such as bipyridine ethylene and methylene blue molecules. We took an interest in three distinct biological problematics with HS-AFM and SERS analyses. First, we have detected the chemical signature of cytochr…

Micro/nanostructured thin films : synthesis by ALD of composites associating TiO2 inverse opals and gold nanoparticles for photocatalysis applications

2021

The aim of this work was to improve the photocatalytic properties of titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin films, a semiconductor that is widely used for photocatalysis applications, particularly for the treatment of polluted water. For this purpose, two complementary approaches were studied: increasing the surface area available for photocalatytic reactions and coupling between TiO2 and gold nanoparticles.. For the first approach, TiO2 thin films with different morphological structures were fabricated by Atomic Layer Deposition: dense and porous flat films, and inverse opals films. In order to evaluate photocatalytic activity of the different films, the degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solut…

Characterization of organic matter in topsoils under rain forest and pasture in the eastern Brazilian Amazon basin

1999

In topsoils under forest and 7-, 12- and 17-year-old pastures, organic matter was characterized by analysing C and N distribution in particle-size fractions, the C decomposition rates of soil and particle-size fractions and by employing density-fractionation of macro-organic matter (>150 μm). The C and N associated with clay fractions increased with increasing age of pasture. The weight (%) of macro-organic matter and its heavy fractions (>1.37 g cm–3) also increased with increasing age of pasture. However, in a long-term incubation (100 days), these changes seemed to involve an increase in the C decomposition rate in the topsoil of the oldest pasture. Using the C decomposition rates of par…

Search for transient sources with the ANTARES and KM3NeT neutrino telescopes in the multi-messenger astronomy era

2020

Searches for heavy neutrinos from Z decays

1992

We have searched for possible fourth family heavy neutrinos, pair produced in Z0 decays, in a sample of about 112 000 hadronic Z0 final states collected with the DELPHI detector. For all mixing matrix elements we exclude a new Dirac neutrino lighter than 44.5 GeV at a 95% confidence level, if the neutrino couples to the electron or muon family, and lighter than 44.0 GeV, if the neutrino couples to the tau family. Depending on the values of the mixing element and to which lepton family the neutrino couples, we obtain mass limits up to 46.2 GeV. For all mixing matrix elements we exclude a new Majorana neutrino lighter than 39.0 GeV, if it couples to the electron or the muon family, and lighte…

Syntheses of TiO2 anatase nanocrystals with controlled size distribution. Influence of the crystallites size on the Raman spectrum and investigation …

2006

The determination of the size and the size distribution of anatase TiO2 nanopowders using Raman spectroscopy is presented. Several synthesis methods (soft chemistry, water-in-oil microemulsion, continuous hydrothermal synthesis) are used in order to control the size (from 3 to 20 nm), shape, phase and size distribution. The shift and width of the anatase Eg peak are often used to obtain the nanoparticles size. Homever, this peak is also sensitive to nonstoichiometry and others parameters. Low-frequency Raman scattering does not suffer from this problem. Size distibutions obtained by Raman spectroscopy and MET micrographs are compared. Finally, in situ Raman spectroscopy is used to study the…

Étude des propriétés optiques et spectroscopiques de nanorods dopés au lanthanide pour des applications de nanosondes en champ proche

2022

Lanthanide-doped nanoparticles constitute a versatile family of photoluminescent local nanoprobes. In this work, we study the photoluminescence of Eu3+-doped NaYF4 nanorods characterized by highly polarized spectra. We develop a full theoretical model and paraxial approximation for nanorod dipole emission. We measure the photoluminescence of individual nanorods by fluorescence confocal microscopy and determine some of their intrinsic optical properties. We also determine the nature (electric or magnetic) and orientations of dipoles moments of the optical transitions used for nanoprobing in the visible range. In addition to the full theoretical model and the paraxial approximation, Fourier mi…

Rôle des antigènes tissulaires de groupes sanguins humains A, B, H et Lewis dans l'évolution des Norovirus GII.4

2011

Noroviruses are one of the leading causes of gastroenteritis worldwide. Since 2002 successive GII.4 variants have circulated in the population before being replaced every 2-3 years, which raises questions about the role of their histo-blood group antigen (HBGAs) receptors in their evolution. We analyzed the interaction between representative GII.4 variants and HBGAs and determined the role of selected amino acids (aa) in the binding profiles. By mutagenesis, we showed that there was a strict structural requirement for the aa directly implicated in HBGA bindings. The ablation of the threonine 395 residue, an epidemiological feature of the post 2002 variants, allowed to gain the capacity to b…

Computational Techniques for the Analysis of Small Signals in High-Statistics Neutrino Oscillation Experiments

2020

The current and upcoming generation of Very Large Volume Neutrino Telescopes – collecting unprecedented quantities of neutrino events – can be used to explore subtle effects in oscillation physics, such as (but not restricted to) the neutrino mass ordering. The sensitivity of an experiment to these effects can be estimated from Monte Carlo simulations. With the high number of events that will be collected, there is a trade-off between the computational expense of running such simulations and the inherent statistical uncertainty in the determined values. In such a scenario, it becomes impractical to produce and use adequately-sized sets of simulated events with traditional methods, such as M…
