The present study performed on a total of 567 cases of human female breast cancer compares the results of the biochemical assay (dextran-coated charcoal assay = DCC) for oestrogen receptor (ER) with those of several morphological methods developed for the detection of the ER or for the prediction of prognosis by use of other systems (FSA = fluorescent ligand binding assay, ER-ICA = monoclonal antibody assay for ER, LRA = lectin receptor assay using peanut agglutinin, and Barr body estimation). Sweet syndrome is the most characteristic of the neutrophilic dermatoses. We performed a retrospective study of patients with Sweet syndrome seen in our department between 2001 and 2009, inclusive; the aims were to define the patient profile and to evaluate the clinical and epidemiological differences between subgroups. There were 24 patients (13 women and 11 men). The age distribution was similar in both sexes and showed 2 peaks, one in the fourth decade and the other in the eighth decade. Congenital absence of both lungs is an extremely rare malformation in humans and is thought to occur sporadically. We report the second case of congenital absence of both lungs in the offspring of one woman. In neither case, one female baby (born at term) and one aborted female fetus (21 weeks of gestation), were anomalies or malformations of other organ systems observed. The karyotype of the aborted fetus was 46,XX. To our knowledge, this is the first report describing bilateral pulmonary agenesis in two offspring of one mother. The repetition of virtually the same isolated abnormality with no other malformations supports the hypothesis that it could be caused by a genetic disorder. Other …

Quantitative measurements of magnetic stray field dynamics of Permalloy particles in a photoemission electron microscopy

By example of a Permalloy particle (40 × 40 μm(2) size, 30 nm thickness) we demonstrate a procedure to quantitatively investigate the dynamics of magnetic stray fields during ultrafast magnetization reversal. The measurements have been performed in a time-resolving photoemission electron microscope using the X-ray magnetic circular dichroism. In the particle under investigation, we have observed a flux-closure-dominated magnetic ground structure, minimizing the magnetic stray field outside the sample. In der vorliegenden Arbeit wird die Brauchbarkeit des Pi-Systems fur die Gutachterpraxis diskutiert. Berucksichtigt man die geringe Ausschluswahrscheinlichkeit (0,05) und die Schwierigkeiten, die sich bei der exakten Bestimmung einiger Phanotypen ergeben, so scheint das Pi-System nur von geringer forensischer Brauchbarkeit zu sein.

In den Hullen konnten histotopochemisch Plasmal, Glykolipine und Phospholipine nachgewiesen werden. 3. Die untersuchten Scheiden gehen in die Scheiden des Fortsatzes uber. Sie zeigen Doppelbrechung, in nativem Zustand meist ein negatives Kreuz, das nach Glyzerindurchtrankung positiv wird. Zusammenfassung Augenbewegungsstorungen sind haufige und typische Symptomen von Hirnstammerkrankungen. Hier liegt die Bedeutung der Elektrookulographie in erster Linie in der Aufdeckung subklinischer Veranderungen (Abb. 1) und weniger in der Bestatigung klinisch evidenter Storungen. Hierzu eignet sich vor allem die Aufzeichnung von Willkursakkaden, die im Allgemeinen bezuglich Geschwindigkeit und Zielgenauigkeit analysiert werden. Hiermit konnen bei Patienten mit multipler Sklerose oder Bewegungsstorungen (M. Parkinson, progressive supranukleare Parese, Chorea Huntington) eine Reihe recht typischer Befunde erhoben werden, die bei der Diagnose hilfreich sein konnen. Dabei legen neuere Studie…
