Migraine and cranial autonomic symptoms in children and adolescents: a clinical study.

The frequency of cranial autonomic symptoms in children affected by primary headaches is uncertain. The aim of our study was to estimate the frequency of symptoms in pediatric headaches and correlate it with main migraine characteristics. A questionnaire investigating the presence of cranial autonomic symptoms was administered to all children with primary headache for 2 years. A total of 230 children with primary headache (105 males, 125 females) were included. Two hundred two children were affected by migraine and 28 (12.2%) by other primary headaches. Aircraft noise exposure drives the activation of white blood cells and induces microvascular dysfunction in mice

Epidemiological studies showed that traffic noise has a dose-dependent association with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Whether microvascular dysfunction contributes significantly to the cardiovascular health effects by noise exposure remains to be established. The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationship between SUA and renal resistive index (RRI), assessed by duplex Doppler ultrasonography, and to assess whether hemodynamic renal changes may explain the association between SUA and renal damage in hypertensive patients. Xanthine oxidase is involved in exercise-induced oxidative stress in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

In the present study, we hypothesized that exhaustive exercise in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) results in glutathione oxidation and lipid peroxidation and that xanthine oxidase (XO) contributes to free radical generation during exercise. COPD patients performed incremental cycle ergometry until exhaustion with (n = 8) or without (n = 8) prior treatment with allopurinol, an XO inhibitor. Reduced (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and lipid peroxides [malondialdehyde (MDA)] were measured in arterial blood. As population progressively ages, the economic impact of the disease will increase. Physiopathology of the aging heart.

Coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in older adults, despite improved survival and declining mortality. Prevalence in and impact of heart disease on elderly people, increasing risk factors, and the underlying physiologic changes of aging are briefly reviewed. High prevalence of clinical and subclinical heart disease provides a basis for considering opportunities for prevention and follow-up. This article focuses on recently developed noninvasive techniques, such as cardiac multislice CT and cardiac MR imaging.
