National Identity and the Problem of "Polish" and "Silesia" in the Work of Jan Goczoł
 The article presents the issues of Polishness and Silesianness in the national consciousness of Jan Goczoł, who is known as a poet with a great deal of authorship, prose writer, columnist, and also an Opolian Silesia cultural activist. The article describes the life path of the poet, his family background, and the crystallisation of national consciousness in his writing. The poetry of the defender of the native tradition is emotionally marked with Silesian motifs and refers to the culture of many generations of Silesians.

The aim of this paper is to explore the political meanings of the medieval past in the historical understanding of individuals in the 18th century. Beyond the familiar Gothic myth, I will focus on the multilayered image of the monarch Peter of Castile (1334–1369), considered cruel, lustful and passionate in the eyes of enemies and historians. The aim is to analyse the different attitudes towards and uses of this historical figure (one that was quite problematic given the cultural values of the period), ranging from the most negative of connotations to the most passionate of defences and including some more ambiguous stances. Contemporary patriotic education should make use of new forms such as the new media, taking into account their popularity and availability in everyday life of children and teenagers. In my paper I presented few specific examples of possible usage of such media texts in patriotic education, with the biggest emphasis on videogames and tabletop games such as boardgames, cardgames ang wargames as well as Internet platforms for content exchange such as YouTube and Twitch. I tried to explain the importance of new media in patriotic education and how they can be used by parents, teachers and educators to explain the history of Poland and deepen national identity.

Values, ideological attitudes and patriotism

We tested a series of discriminant associations, investigating how dimensions of patriotism (i.e. blind and constructive) differently relate to value orientations, and to ideological attitudes such as Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) and Social Dominance Orientation (SDO). Using an Italian student sample (N = 146) we found that blind patriotism correlated positively with tradition and negatively with universalism, whilst constructive patriotism correlated negatively with tradition and positively with universalism. Patriotyzm jest fenomenem, który przeżywa w Polsce w ciągu kilku ostatnich lat swoisty renesans. Ten „znak czasów” został zauważony przez polskich biskupów katolickich, którzy w 2017 r. opublikowali dokument pt. Chrześcijański kształt patriotyzmu. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zaprezentowanie najważniejszych myśli płynących z tego dokumentu, w którym podkreśla się przede wszystkim istotną różnicę pomiędzy godnym propagowania patriotyzmem a stanowiącym formę egoizmu nacjonalizmem. Wydaje się, iż te refleksje społeczne Konferencji Episkopatu Polski powinny dotrzeć do szerszego grona odbiorców (także niemieckojęzycznych), czemu ma służyć ten artykuł.
