Impact of textual data augmentation on linguistic pattern extraction to improve the idiomaticity of extractive summaries

2021

International audience; The present work aims to develop a text summarisation system for financial texts with a focus on the fluidity of the target language. Linguistic analysis shows that the process of writing summaries should take into account not only terminological and collocational extraction, but also a range of linguistic material referred to here as the "support lexicon", that plays an important role in the cognitive organisation of the field. On this basis, this paper highlights the relevance of pre-training the CamemBERT model on a French financial dataset to extend its domainspecific vocabulary and fine-tuning it on extractive summarisation. We then evaluate the impact of textua…

Masked priming effects are modulated by expertise in the script.

2010

In a recent study using a masked priming same–different matching task, García-Orza, Perea, and Muñoz (2010) found a transposition priming effect for letter strings, digit strings, and symbol strings, but not for strings of pseudoletters (i.e., [Formula: see text] produced similar response times to the control pair [Formula: see text]). They argued that the mechanism responsible for position coding in masked priming is not operative with those “objects” whose identity cannot be attained rapidly. To assess this hypothesis, Experiment 1 examined masked priming effects in Arabic for native speakers of Arabic, whereas participants in Experiments 2 and 3 were lower intermediate learners of Arabi…

Are transposition effects specific to letters?

2010

Recent research has consistently shown that pseudowords created by transposing two letters are perceptually similar to their corresponding base words (e.g., jugde–judge). In the framework of the overlap model (Gomez, Ratcliff, & Perea, 2008), this effect is due to a noisy process in the localization of the “objects” (e.g., letters, kana syllables). In the present study, we examine whether this effect is specific to letter strings or whether it also occurs with other “objects” (namely, digits, symbols, and pseudoletters). To that end, we conducted a series of five masked priming experiments using the same–different task. Results showed robust effects of transposition for all objects, ex…

Codebook is an effective image representation method. By clustering in local image descriptors, a codebook is shown to be a distinctive image feature and widely applied in object classification. In almost all existing works on codebooks, the building of the visual vocabulary follows a basic routine, that is, extracting local image descriptors and clustering with a user-designated number of clusters. The problem with this routine lies in that building a codebook for each single dataset is not efficient. In order to deal with this problem, we investigate the influence of vocabulary sizes on classification performance and vocabulary universality with the kNN classifier. Experimental results in…

Effect and optimization of burst assembly algorithms for video traffic transmissions over OBS networks

2008

Optical burst switching (OBS) has been proposed to be a technology for implementing the next generation optical Internet. In this architecture, burst assembly algorithms have an important influence in the traffic pattern that characterizes this sort of optical networks. On the other hand, traffic coming from new applications (such as video on demand, Voice over IP, online gaming or Grid services) that have real time and bandwidth constraints has been experimented a rapid increment. Consequently, we consider important to evaluate the performance of the real time traffic over OBS networks. In this paper, we evaluate the video transmissions performance (MPEG4/RTP/UDP) over OBS networks, for bo…

Bestimmung des Verteilungsvolumens von intrahepatisch injizierten Kontrastmittellösungen: Voruntersuchungen zur intratumoralen Gentherapie

2002

PURPOSE Determination of the intrahepatic distribution volume of two contrast media (CM) by CT-guided application in an ex-vivo and an in-vivo model (pig liver). MATERIAL AND METHODS In pig livers ex-vivo and in-vivo, 131 CT-guided injections of two different CM (Imagopaque(R), Visipaque(R)) were performed using catheters and cannula with and without side-holes and documented by spiral CT. The distribution pattern was assessed visually: interstitial, subcapsular, vascular/tubular, the distribution volume was quantified using a density mask (thresholds 70/400 HE). RESULTS Purely interstitial applications were achieved more frequently in-vivo than ex-vivo (p = 0.001). There were no relevant d…

Classification of diabetes-related retinal diseases using a deep learning approach in optical coherence tomography

2019

Background and objectives: Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD-OCT) is a volumetric imaging technique that allows measuring patterns between layers such as small amounts of fluid. Since 2012, automatic medical image analysis performance has steadily increased through the use of deep learning models that automatically learn relevant features for specific tasks, instead of designing visual features manually. Nevertheless, providing insights and interpretation of the predictions made by the model is still a challenge. This paper describes a deep learning model able to detect medically interpretable information in relevant images from a volume to classify diabetes-related retinal d…

When the nose must remain responsive: glutathione conjugation of the mammary pheromone in the newborn rabbit

2014

In insects, xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes were demonstrated to regulate pheromones inactivation, clearing them from the olfactory periphery and keeping receptors ready for stimulation renewal. Here, we investigate whether similar processes could occur in mammals, focusing on the pheromonal communication between female rabbits and their newborns. Lactating rabbits emit in their milk a volatile aldehyde, 2-methylbut-2-enal, that elicits searching-grasping in neonates; called the mammary pheromone (MP), it is critical for pups which are constrained to find nipples within the 5 min of daily nursing. For newborns, it is thus essential to remain sensitive to this odorant during the whole nursin…

Numerical study of blow-up in solutions to generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equations

2013

We present a numerical study of solutions to the generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equations with critical and supercritical nonlinearity for localized initial data with a single minimum and single maximum. In the cases with blow-up, we use a dynamic rescaling to identify the type of the singularity. We present a discussion of the observed blow-up scenarios.

A Spatial Pyramidal Decomposition Method for ear representation using local dual cross patterns

2019

International audience; In recent years, several scientific works are oriented to develop optimal ear representation, for ear recognition, which is discriminant, compact, and easyto-implement to ensure the best performance in terms of accuracy, computation cost, and storage requirement. In this manner, this paper presents a novel ear representation based on texture analysis framework, which relies mainly on Dual Cross Pattern (DCP) descriptor and Spatial Pyramid Histogram (SPH) method. The features are extracted using DCP descriptor to capture the textural structure then, the SPH of horizontal ear decomposition is applied to obtain the local information. The feature vector representations o…
