Chromatographic determination of caffeine in pharmaceutical formulations using micellar mobile phases
1996
An HPLC procedure is described for the determination of caffeine in pharmaceutical preparations. A Spherisorb octadecylsilane ODS-2 C18 analytical column and spectrophotometric detection at 273 nm were used. The chromatographic behaviour of caffeine with different micellar eluents containing sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) is described. The determination of caffeine in pharmaceutical preparations was performed by use of a mobile phase containing 0.05 M sodium dodecylsulphate (SDS) and 1.5% propanol at pH7. At a 6.0 μg mL−1 concentration level the peak area and peak height repeatability were 2.6 and 2.4%, respectively. The application of the proposed method to the analysis of five pharmaceutic…
Multicommutation-NIR determination of Hexythiazox in pesticide formulations.
2006
A multicommutated flow-system was designed in order to increase analytical throughput and for controlling thermal effects on the NIR spectra for determination of Hexythiazox in pesticide formulations. An on-line standard addition was carried out showing the versatility and repeatability of multicommutation for the on-line mixing and dilution of solutions. Results obtained for commercial samples were statistically comparable with those obtained by an HPLC-reference method. Multicommutation-NIR allows the analysis of 52 samples per hour, in front of the 30 samples per hour analyzed by the NIR-batch procedure and the 7 samples per hour analyzed by HPLC-reference method.
Determination of SiO 2 in lime mud by gravimetry
1999
A simple and rapid method for the determination of SiO2 in lime mud used in current sulfate pulping practice is reported. The lime mud samples are treated three times with 2.5 mL of 6 mol/L hydrochloric acid. The samples are nearly evaporated to dryness two times and the third time to complete dryness. To determine the exact SiO2 content of the residue, it is treated with an excess of concentrated hydrofluoric acid and a little hydrochloric acid, and the silica is expelled as volatile silicon tetrafluoride. The sample treatments take about 1.5 h and the heating periods take a total of about 3.5 h. The SiO2 results were evaluated by analyzing National Institute of Standards and Technology St…
Genetic data of 10 X-STRs in a Spanish population sample
2007
In this work, we present population genetic data of 10 X-chromosome STRs (DXS8378, DXS9898, DXS8377, HPRTB, GATA172D05, DXS7423, DXS6809, DXS7132, DXS101 and DXS6789) obtained from sample of 145 unrelated female individuals belonging to Valencia (Spain), a region located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula. All the markers studied present high genetic diversities, similar to those previously reported in other European population samples. No deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were observed, with the exception of DXS101 locus. Allele frequencies and parameters of forensic interest for each X-STR were calculated. High mean exclusion chance and power of discrimination values were obtai…
LRRK2 is expressed in areas affected by Parkinson's disease in the adult mouse brain.
2006
The leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) gene was recently found to have multiple mutations that are causative for autosomal dominant inherited Parkinson's disease (PD). Previously, we used Northern blot analysis to show that this gene was expressed in the cerebellum, cerebral cortex, medulla, spinal cord, occipital pole, frontal lobe, temporal lobe and caudate putamen. However, a more comprehensive map of LRRK2 mRNA localization in the central nervous system is still lacking. In this study we have mapped the distribution of the mRNA encoding for LRRK2 using nonradioactive in situ hybridization. We detected a moderate expression of this PD-related gene throughout the adult B2B6 mouse brain.…
How copper ions and membrane environment influence the structure of the human and chicken tandem repeats domain?
2019
Abstract Prion proteins (PrPs) from different species have the enormous ability to anchor copper ions. The N-terminal domain of human prion protein (hPrP) contains four tandem repeats of the –PHGGGWGQ– octapeptide sequence. This octarepeat domain can bind up to four Cu2+ ions. Similarly to hPrP, chicken prion protein (chPrP) is able to interact with Cu2+ through the tandem hexapeptide -HNPGYP- region (residues 53–94). In this work, we focused on the human octapeptide repeat (human Octa4, hPrP60–91) (Ac-PHGGGWGQPHGGGWGQPHGGGWGQPHGGGWGQ-NH2) and chicken hexapeptide repeat (chicken Hexa4, chPrP54–77) (Ac-HNPGYPHNPGYPHNPGYPHNPGYP-NH2) prion protein fragments. Due to the fact that PrP is a membr…

Large stocks of peatland carbon and nitrogen are vulnerable to permafrost thaw
2020
Significance Over many millennia, northern peatlands have accumulated large amounts of carbon and nitrogen, thus cooling the global climate. Over shorter timescales, peatland disturbances can trigger losses of peat and release of greenhouses gases. Despite their importance to the global climate, peatlands remain poorly mapped, and the vulnerability of permafrost peatlands to warming is uncertain. This study compiles over 7,000 field observations to present a data-driven map of northern peatlands and their carbon and nitrogen stocks. We use these maps to model the impact of permafrost thaw on peatlands and find that warming will likely shift the greenhouse gas balance of northern peatlands. …
