Application based on dynamic reconfiguration of field-programmable gate arrays: JPEG 2000 arithmetic decoder

This paper describes the implementation of a part of the JPEG 2000 algorithm (MQ decoder and arithmetic decoder) on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) board by using dynamic reconfiguration. A comparison between static and dynamic reconfiguration is presented, and new analysis criteria (spatiotemporal efficiency, logic cost, and performance time) have been defined. The MQ decoder and arithmetic decoder are attractive for dynamic reconfiguration implementation in applications without parallel processing. Improved Statistically Based Retrievals via Spatial-Spectral Data Compression for IASI Data

In this paper, we analyze the effect of spatial and spectral compression on the performance of statistically based retrieval. Although the quality of the information is not com- pletely preserved during the coding process, experiments reveal that a certain amount of compression may yield a positive impact on the accuracy of retrievals. We unveil two strategies, both with interesting benefits: either to apply a very high compression, which still maintains the same retrieval performance as that obtained for uncompressed data; or to apply a moderate to high compression, which improves the performance. Patterns and universals of adult romantic attachment across 62 cultural regions: Are models of self and of other pancultural constructs?

As part of the International Sexuality Description Project, a total of 17,804 participants from 62 cultural regions completed the Relationship Questionnaire (RQ), a self-report measure of adult romantic attachment. Correlational analyses within each culture suggested that the Model of Self and the Model of Other scales of the RQ were psychometrically valid within most cultures. Contrary to expectations, the Model of Self and Model of Other dimensions of the RQ did not underlie the four-category model of attachment in the same way across all cultures. In the present work biocompatible quercetin and curcumin nanovesicles were developed as a novel approach to prevent and restore skin tissue defects on chronic cutaneous pathologies. Stable and suitable quercetin- and curcumin-loaded phospholipid vesicles, namely liposomes and penetration enhancer-containing vesicles (PEVs), were prepared. ABSTRACT Buchnera strains from most aphid subfamilies studied to date have been found to carry the leucine gene cluster ( leuA , - B , - C , and - D ) on a plasmid, an organization unique among bacteria. Here, however, we demonstrate a classical chromosomal location of the cluster in Buchnera sp. strain PSY from the aphid Pemphigus spyrothecae (subfamily Pemphiginae). The genes that flank leuABCD in Buchnera sp. strain PSY appear to be adjacent in the genome of Buchnera sp. strain APS, a strain carrying a leucine plasmid.
