Attitudes and perceptions of faculty members in the process adopting innovation: The OpenCourseWare initiative at the University of Valencia, Spain
2014
The OpenCourseWare project, an open learning resource repository, was established at the University of Valencia between 2008 and2009. It initially consisted of only 10 subjects, none of which was in the field of Health Sciences. The objective of this research was toinvestigate the attitudes and perceptions of faculty members in the field of Health Sciences with regard to the project to identify strategies to increase its use and expand its coverage. We applied Rogers’ innovation-diffusion theory along with a qualitative approach using theoretical sampling, semi-structured interviews and open coding. The results indicate the existence of two categories of faculty members. In the first group,…
Telpisko prasmju novērtēšanas testa digitālās versijas izstrāde
2021
Impairment of Temporal Binding Window in Migraine Patients
Response to Skeide and Friederici: The myth of the uniquely human “direct” dorsal pathway
2015
In their comment on our recent article [1], Skeide and Friederici [2] claim ‘that some important data not discussed by Bornkessel-Schlesewsky et al. strongly support the view that there are clear qualitative, and not merely quantitative, differences between [human and nonhuman primate] species with respect to both the intrinsic functional connectivity of frontal and temporal cortices, and their direct structural connection via a dorsal white matter fiber tract.’ This obviously refers to work by Friederici and colleagues [3] emphasizing the functional importance of a direct connection between the posterior superior temporal cortex (pSTC) and Brodmann area (BA) 44 in humans, and its absence i…
2018
Despite increasing interest in the development of audiovisual speech perception in infancy, the underlying mechanisms and neural processes are still only poorly understood. In addition to regions in temporal cortex associated with speech processing and multimodal integration, such as superior temporal sulcus, left inferior frontal cortex (IFC) has been suggested to be critically involved in mapping information from different modalities during speech perception. To further illuminate the role of IFC during infant language learning and speech perception, the current study examined the processing of auditory, visual and audiovisual speech in 6-month-old infants using functional near-infrared s…
An analysis on the subjective perception of policy action on peripherality: A comparative assessment in accessible and peripheral areas of six countr…
2009
The paper presents an analysis of the subjective perception of the policy efficiency on peripherality in 12 regions of six countries of the EU. In each country two regions are selected: one peripheral but relatively dynamic and another accessible but relatively lagging. Public action conditions a range of processes and activities that continuously influence the intensity and direction of development. It can be part of the new factors of territorial development (NFTD) building up or hindering peripherality. The paper has the following aims: to identify what generic types of measures are believed to be more efficient for development; to analyse which measures (spatial or aspatial) are conside…
Modulation of higher-order olfaction components on executive functions in humans
2015
The prefrontal (PFC) and orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) appear to be associated with both executive functions and olfaction. However, there is little data relating olfactory processing and executive functions in humans. The present study aimed at exploring the role of olfaction on executive functioning, making a distinction between primary and more cognitive aspects of olfaction. Three executive tasks of similar difficulty were used. One was used to assess hot executive functions (Iowa Gambling Task-IGT), and two as a measure of cold executive functioning (Stroop Colour and Word Test-SCWT and Wisconsin Card Sorting Test-WCST). Sixty two healthy participants were included: 31 with normosmia and …
Abstraction in Motion
2015
Folding Pattern is an art project developed by the team of artists, Cristina Ghetti and Emanuele Mazza. The work starts from the idea of proposing a revision of the foundations of perceptual abstraction, that had in it's derivations, one of the art movements more connected with the use of new technologies and one of the art tendencies with more powerful and interesting arguments. We are interested in exploring the developments of abstraction in the digital era, incorporating new media tools, and analyzing how contemporary art is developing the ideas of modernist abstraction introducing the utilization of new technologies, in a context where the influence of science, and of new ways of produ…
