Fluconazole concentrations in pulmonary tissue and pericardial fluid

1997

In order to investigate the clinical efficacy of the triazole antifungal agent fluconazole (FCA) in the treatment of pulmonary mycosis, in the present study the concentrations of fluconazole in human pulmonary tissue, pericardial fluid and serum were determined at 1, 2, 12 and 13 h after intravenous administration of fluconazole 200 mg. The mean FCA concentrations in the serum were 4.04 mg/l (1 h), 3.82 mg/l (2 h), 2.35 mg/l (12 h) and 2.13 mg/l (13 h). The respective FCA levels in the pulmonary tissue were 4.64 mg/kg, 4.54 mg/kg; 3.50 mg/kg and 3.40 mg/kg and the concentrations in the pericardial fluid were 3.86 mg/l, 3.57 mg/l, 2.35 mg/l and 2.13 mg/l. The FCA concentrations in the pulmon…

Pericardium of the frog,Rana esculenta,is morphologically designed as a lymphatic space

2003

The importance of the pericardium and the pericardial fluid (PF) in the control of cardiac function has emerged over the past few years. Despite the acknowledgment that amphibians are exposed to both dehydration and excessive water accumulation, nothing is known about their pericardial structure and the morphological basis of the PF formation. We have studied the parietal pericardium (PP) morphology in Rana esculenta by electron microscopy. SEM images of the inner surface, which lines the pericardial cavity, revealed the presence of large vesicles and many small circular openings. TEM observations showed that the PP is made up of an inner mesothelial lining, often constituted by two layers …

Porcine Dermis and Pericardium-Based, Non–Cross-Linked Materials Induce Multinucleated Giant Cells After Their In Vivo Implantation: A Physiological …

2015

The present study analyzed the tissue reaction to 2 novel porcine-derived collagen materials: pericardium versus dermis. By means of the subcutaneous implantation model in mice, the tissue reactions were investigated at 5 time points: 3, 10, 15, 30, and 60 days after implantation. Histologic, histochemical, immunhistologic, and histomorphometric analysis methodologies were applied. The dermis-derived material underwent an early degradation while inducing mononuclear cells together with some multinucleated giant cells and mild vascularization. The pericardium-derived membrane induced 2 different cellular tissue reactions. The compact surface induced mononuclear cells and multinucleated giant…

2015 ESC Guidelines for the diagnosis and management of pericardial diseases: The Task Force for the Diagnosis and Management of Pericardial Diseases…

2015

Guidelines summarize and evaluate all available evidence on a particular issue at the time of the writing process, with the aim of assisting health professionals in selecting the best management strategies for an individual patient with a given condition, taking into account the impact on outcome, as well as the risk–benefit ratio of particular diagnostic or therapeutic means. Guidelines and recommendations should help health professionals to make decisions in their daily practice. However, the final decisions concerning an individual patient must be made by the responsible health professional(s) in consultation with the patient and caregiver as appropriate.

QT interval heterogeneities induced through local epicardial warming/cooling. An experimental study

2014

[EN] ntroduction and objectives Abnormal QT interval durations and dispersions have been associated with increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias. The present study examines the possible arrhythmogenic effect of inducing QT interval variations through local epicardial cooling and warming. Methods In 10 isolated rabbit hearts, the temperatures of epicardial regions of the left ventricle were modified in a stepwise manner (from 22 °C to 42 °C) with simultaneous electrogram recording in these regions and in others of the same ventricle. QT and activation-recovery intervals were determined during sinus rhythm, whereas conduction velocity and ventricular arrhythmia induction were determined dur…

Long-term performance of the bovine pericardium patch in conventional carotid endarterectomy.

2014

Objective The aim of the study was to analyze long-term results of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) using bovine pericardium patch. Patients and Methods This study is a retrospective analysis of 274 consecutive cases (173 in CEA group and 101 patients in an internal control group of eversion endarterectomy [EEA]) operated between January 2005 and May 2007. Operations were performed according to standard surgical technique. Primary endpoints of the study were 30-day mortality, ipsilateral neurologic event rate, and high-grade restenosis in the long-term follow-up. Results No statistically significance between both groups was found in terms of gender, age, risk factors, medication (statine, plate…

Low-energy epicardial pacing in children: the benefit of autocapture.

1999

Abstract Background . Permanent cardiac pacing in children results commonly in augmented energy consumption because of the high pacing rates and the ample stimulation safety margin applied in children. Cardiovascular anatomy and limited venous access sometimes preclude the otherwise preferred endocardial approach. In this multicenter patient series, we studied the feasibility, safety, and energy saving obtained by a combination of steroid-eluting epicardial leads with autocapture devices capable of ongoing adjustment of the stimulation output to the prevailing threshold. Methods . Autocapture devices (Pacesetter Microny SR+ and Regency SR+; Pacesetter, Solna, Sweden) and steroid-eluting epi…

Prospektive Machbarkeitsstudie zum Vergleich von Röntgenübersichtsaufnahme und Thorax-MRT in Atemanhaltetechnik am offenen Niederfeldgerät

2002

PURPOSE MR investigations using a breath-hold sequence at an open low-field MR had to be compared to chest X-rays in patients with a wide spectrum of cardio-thoracic pathologies. MATERIAL AND METHODS 114 patients and three volunteers who actually received a chest X-ray due to different indications underwent triplanar breath-hold (17 - 20 s) True-FISP sequence using a 0.2 T low-field MR (Siemens Magnetom Open, TR/TE/alpha: 7.3/3.5/80 degrees, SD: 10 mm, Pixel: 2.81 x 1.41 mm) a mean of 5.1 (+/- 8.2) days later. RESULTS Signal-to-noise ratio as basics for pattern recognition was 3.2 in nodule, 5.0 in infiltration, and 12.0 in effusion, and therefore True-FISP is usable for the detection of th…

Inter-Model Consistency and Complementarity: Learning from ex-vivo Imaging and Electrophysiological Data towards an Integrated Understanding of Cardi…

2011

International audience; Computational models of the heart at various scales and levels of complexity have been independently developed, parameterised and validated using a wide range of experimental data for over four decades. However, despite remarkable progress, the lack of coordinated efforts to compare and combine these computational models has limited their impact on the numerous open questions in cardiac physiology. To address this issue, a comprehensive dataset has previously been made available to the community that contains the cardiac anatomy and fibre orientations from magnetic resonance imaging as well as epicardial transmembrane potentials from optical mapping measured on a per…
