Biosystematic researches on Allium cupani group (Amaryllidaceae) in the Mediterranean area.

2015

Allium cupani Raf. is a species complex of the subgenus Allium L., which is taxonomically quite critical mainly for its marked karyological and morphological variability. In the present study, karyo-taxonomic characterization of some peculiar populations of this group from Italian, N African, Balcan and Aegean territories has been performed, using both living plants collected in the field and herbarium material. As a result, ten new species have been recognized and described within the A. cupani complex. They are A. panormitanum from N Sicily, A. samniticum from C Italy, A. mauritanicum from N Morocco and NW Algeria, A. balcanicum from mountains of Balkan Peninsula, A. tzanoudakisanum from …

Influence of the Substituent on Selective Photocatalytic Oxidation of Aromatic Compounds in Aqueous TiO2 Suspensions.

2006

Experimental results are reported showing that the photocatalytic oxidation of aromatic compounds containing an electron-donor group (EDG) gives rise mainly to ortho- and para-monohydroxy derivatives while in the presence of an electron-withdrawing group (EWG) all the monohydroxy derivatives are obtained.

Sex composition and group climate: A group actor−partner interdependence analysis.

2013

There is a lack of research examining how the proportion of women and men in a group effects both the group member’s perception of group climate and the aggregated perceptions of group climate for the other group members. We adapted the group actor–partner interdependence model (GAPIM; Kenny & Garcia, 2012) to examine how the perception of the group’s climate by a group member and by the other group members are related to the group member’s sex and the sex of the other group members. In addition, we examined how similar the group member’s sex was to the sex of the other group members by analyzing the interaction between the two sex variables. A total of 110 Italian graduate students (96 wom…

Chemical characterization of ancient liturgical vestment (chasuble) by Inductively Coupled Plasma–Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP–OES)

2016

Abstract This paper presents the chemical characterization of the yarns of an ancient liturgical vestment (chasuble). The samples have been analyzed for Al, Ag, Au, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn using amounts always less than 1 mg by Inductively Coupled Plasma–Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). Except a sample, silver is the most abundant element in all the yarns. In the samples containing silver, it ranged from 68 to 97%. Only two samples contain aluminum. Although the investigated chasuble is recorded in the inventory as an artifact of the XV century, a part of the yarns is composed of materials attributed to later period. In fact, the voluntary use of aluminum in metal alloys is du…

Using Chemical Structural Indicators for Periodic Classification of Local Anaesthetics

2011

Algorithms for classification and taxonomy based on criteria as information entropy and its production are proposed. Some local anaesthetics, currently in use, are classified using five characteristic chemical properties of different portions of their molecules. Many classification algorithms are based on information entropy. When applying the procedures to sets of moderate size, an excessive number of results appear compatible with data and the number suffers a combinatorial explosion. However, after the equipartition conjecture one has a selection criterion between different variants resulting from classification between hierarchical trees. Information entropy and principal component anal…

13C and15N NMR chemical shift assignments ofN-1-(2- azidoethyl)-4-R-pyrimidin-2-ones by1H,X HMQ(B)C withz-gradient selection

1998

13C and 15N NMR chemical shift assignments based on z-gradient selected 1H,X (X=13C and 15N) HMQC and HMBC experiments are reported for N-1-(2-azidoethyl)pyrimidin-2-one (ring system of cytosine), its five 4-R derivatives [where R=NH2, OCH3, N(CH2)4, NHCH2CH(CH3)2 and N(CH3)2] and 2-azidoethyl tosylate. The possibilities of detecting all nitrogens in these molecules containing (i) an azido group at N-1 and (ii) an electronegative substituent at C-4 are limited. First, the terminal nitrogen of the azido group is difficult to observe because the nearest proton (in a CH2 group) is located four bonds away from it. Second, in contrast to N-1, N-3 in N-1-(2-azido-ethyl)-4-pyrimidin-2-ones remaine…

Synthesis of new antimicrobial pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-3-ones

2012

The attractive structure of the pyrroloisoquinoline moiety, together with its potential antimicrobial activity, encouraged us to prepare six 8-substituted and seven 8,9-disubstituted-1,2,3,5,6,10b-hexahydropyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-3-ones in a few steps with good yields. We applied a convenient methodology via double intramolecular cyclization conducted by a Bischler-Napieralski cyclodehydration-imine reduction sequence, which is widely employed in the synthesis of isoquinoline alkaloids. Therefore, we synthesized three series of these pyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-3-ones characterized by the substituent at the 8-position or 8,9-positions of the aromatic ring: (a) different side chains are atta…

3-formylphenylboronic acid.

2004

The molecule of the title compound, C(7)H(7)BO(3), is planar, and the bond lengths and angles are typical. The formyl group is essentially coplanar with the benzene ring but does not influence significantly the distortion of the ring, although the formyl group does have a strong influence on the crystal packing. The geometry of the boronic acid group is typical. In the crystal structure, the molecules are linked by O-H...O hydrogen bonds.

A novel polynitrile ligand with different coordination modes: Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of the series [M(tcnoprOH)2(H2O)2] (M=Mn, …

2008

International audience; A novel polynitrile ligand (tcnoprOH− = [(NC)2CC(OCH2CH2CH2OH)C(CN)2]−) with up to five potentially coordinating groups has been synthesized in a one-pot reaction from a cyclic acetal and malononitrile. The combination of this novel ligand with different transition metal ions has led to the synthesis of two different structural types with the same formula but with different coordination modes in the ligand. Mn(II) and Cu(II) lead to a μ2-N,O-coordinating mode in the series of compounds formulated as [M(N,O-tcnoprOH)2(H2O)2] (M = MnII (1) and CuII (2)), whereas Co(II) and, most probably Ni(II), lead to a μ2-N,N′-coordinating mode in [Co(N,N′-tcnoprOH)2(H2O)2] (3).
