This study was designed to evaluate total (t) and surface (s) β-adrenergic receptor (BAR) density and their relationship with central haemodynamics and left ventricular function in young subjects with central or peripheral obesity. A total of 31 obese subjects (BMI ≥30.5 kg. m−2 for males and >27.3 kg. m−2 for females) aged less than 40 years and without other risk factors for cardiovascular diseases (smoking, hypertension, diabetes and lipid abnormalities) were studied. The aim of this study was to compare neuromuscular alterations following different isometric sub-maximal contractions of the knee extensor muscles but with similar TTI. Changes in neuromuscular function after tasks involving control of EMG versus torque feedback of the same duration.

This study was designed to compare alterations in neuromuscular function after two tasks of similar duration involving the control of (1) torque level fixed at 40% maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) torque (torque task) and (2) EMG level when exerting 40% MVC torque on the knee extensor muscles. In the present study, the quantification of urine 8-oxo-7,8-dihydro-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dG) concentration has been used to express the oxidation status of hypertensive subjects. 8-oxo-dG has been simultaneously isolated and assayed in nuclear (nDNA) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Morphological and immunohistochemical studies in diabetic subjects have shown a depletion of the neuropeptide substance P (SP) in the central and peripheral nervous system. This is the first study investigating serum levels of substance P in type 1 diabetes patients (n=50) and controls (n=75) by means of an enzyme immunoassay. The serum level of SP was significantly decreased in the diabetic group compared to the control group (10.12+/-0.29 vs. 12.25+/-0.38 pg/ml; p<0.0001). Cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy in type 1 diabetic patients with and without peripheral neuropathy.

One hundred Type 1 diabetic patients (54 men, 46 women) mean age 28.9 +/- 8.4 years, were selected from among individuals referred to our hospital, with no previous diagnosis of diabetic chronic complications including diabetic neuropathy.
