Sport motivation among young adolescents in Finland, Norway and Sweden

Within a health promotion perspective, nationwide surveys on health behaviour and lifestyle in 11- to 15-year-old schoolchildren were carried out in Finland, Norway and Sweden in 1985–1986. The surveys were part of an international World Health Organization study on health behaviour in school-age children. The findings suggest that social, fun and health motives are perceived as the main motivations for sport participation. Competition and achievements were not rated as important reasons for liking sport, with older pupils seeming to attach more importance to sport being fun. Clinical applications of ‘waking’ hypnosis from a cognitive-behavioural perspective: from efficacy to efficiency

This article reviews several essential components for use in the practice of hypnosis from a cognitive-behavioural perspective. These include a cognitive-behavioural introduction, which presents hypnosis to the client as a voluntary, self-controlled process. Then, a set of practical tasks is presented for assessing suggestibility as well as collaboration and attitudes toward hypnosis. The author provides a description of rapid self-hypnosis and instruction as to its implementation, and advocates the use of metaphors designed to facilitate a client's understanding of hypnosis. A wiki task for first-year university students : the effect of scripting students' collaboration

Abstract This study investigates the effect of a collaboration script - i.e. a set of instructions to improve collaboration between learning partners - for a wiki task. Participants were first-year university students in Educational Sciences ( N = 186) collaborating in groups of five during a three-week period to create a wiki on peer assessment in education. Two conditions were contrasted: a scripted and a non-scripted condition. Doppler Shift Characterization of Wideband Mobile Radio Channels

The prevailing approach for characterizing the Doppler shift (DS) of mobile radio channels assumes the transmission of an unmodulated carrier. This consideration is valid for the analysis of narrowband channels, but its pertinence is questionable in regards to the modeling of wideband channels. In this correspondence, we redefine the DS from a time-frequency analysis perspective that does not depend on the aforementioned assumption. We systematically demonstrate that the DS can be characterized by the instantaneous frequency of the channel transfer function. All previous work in inductive inference and theoretical machine learning has taken the perspective of looking for a learning algorithm that successfully learns a collection of functions. In this work, we consider the perspective of starting with a set of functions, and considering the collection of learning algorithms that are successful at learning the given functions. Some strong dualities are revealed.
