Social representations as a diagnostic tool for identifying cultural and other group differences
2005
The aim of this research is to develop a procedure for data collection within a social representations perspective that may be of use in diverse contexts in which investigators wish to understand and compare the norms and values associated with a particular social object in different social or cultural groups. The social representation of sport is studied in two culturally distinct countries, Morocco and France, with the use of an innovative procedure derived from the Model of Basic Cognitive Schemes (Rouquette, 1990, 1994b). The results reveal a difference in the appropriation of values related to sport in the two countries: the social representation of sport for the Moroccans is focused a…
Consumer perceptions of grocery retail formats and brands
2001
Grocery retailers are operating in a slow‐growth market. The pursuit of market share is one of the main concerns for retail managers. The retail structure is becoming increasingly standardized and homogenous because of concentration of the ownership of stores. Cultural differences remain, however, between different European countries. Cultural factors influence the success of a positioning strategy. This study examined how consumers perceive grocery retail formats and brands in Finland. Data from personal interviews were used in highlighting the consumer perspective. Consumers perceive meaningful differences in various store formats, meanwhile store brands are seen as quite similar. Consume…
Cause-related marketing influence on consumer responses: The moderating effect of cause–brand fit
2012
The traditional focus on the study of cause–brand fit in cause-related marketing (CrM) is that it is a mediator variable between consumer perceptions and subsequent responses. However, the literature is not conclusive on this point. This study adopts a new perspective, considering cause–brand fit as a moderator variable rather than a direct antecedent to consumer evaluations of CrM. Thus, the main objective of this research is to examine the moderator role of cause–brand fit in the influence of two corporate associations elicited in CrM (corporate social responsibility (CSR) and corporate ability (CA) associations) on brand attitude and two behavioural consumer responses (purchase intent an…
The choice of offshoring operation mode: A behavioural perspective
2019
Since offshoring has recently become an integral part of corporate strategies, choosing the specific offshoring operation mode is a crucial aspect for CEOs. Using a sample of 466 offshoring operations, this study analyses offshoring mode decisions from the rationale of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Drawing on this perspective, our results indicate that this decision seems to be clearly influenced by the manager's intentions and partially determined by some competences originated in the resources and experience of the firm. Additionally, and contrary to the common view in the field, our findings suggest that instead of being a possible intermediate option between the “make or buy” d…

Short baseline line matching for central imaging systems
2012
We develop a generic line matching method especially applicable to omnidirectional images taken from constructed scenes with short baseline motion where the motion of the imaging system between two views is mainly an arbitrary rotation and the translation of the camera between two views with respect to its distance to the imaged scene is negligible. We start by studying the relationship between images of lines on unitary sphere followed by proposing a simple algorithm for simultaneously matching vanishing points and lines. The developed algorithm is very simple, yet it works on images captured by all types of central imaging systems, including perspective, fish-eye and catadioptric images. …
A Generic Method of Line Matching for Central Imaging Systems under Short-Baseline Motion
2009
Line matching across images taken by a central imaging system (perspective or catadioptric) with focus on short baseline motion of the system is proposed. The relationship between images of lines on unitary sphere is studied and a simple algorithm for matching lines are proposed assuming the rotation of the system is known apriori or it can be estimated from some correspondences in two views. Two methods are discussed for retrieving R in the case it is not known apriori. Experimental results on both synthetic and real images are also presented.
Three-dimensional real-time darkfield imaging through Fourier lightfield microscopy
2020
We report a protocol that takes advantage of the Fourier lightfield microscopy concept for providing 3D darkfield images of volumetric samples in a single-shot. This microscope takes advantage of the Fourier lightfield configuration, in which a lens array is placed at the Fourier plane of the microscope objective, providing a direct multiplexing of the spatio-angular information of the sample. Using the proper illumination beam, the system collects the light scattered by the sample while the background light is blocked out. This produces a set of orthographic perspective images with shifted spatial-frequency components that can be recombined to produce a 3D darkfield image. Applying the ade…
