Ongoing Economic Restructuring in the Wake of the Latest Economic Crisis: A Russian Perspective
2013
Abstract The latest economic crisis has brought into focus long-standing discussions regarding the role played by services in contemporary economies. Whether viewed as a support for the well-established manufacturing sector, or growth engine in its own right, the third economic sector has become a focus point for policy makers worldwide. The paper follows the effects of the crisis on the tertiarization process, with an emphasis on developing economies, where this phenomenon is barely coming of age. The research is centered on the IT market, as this is seen as a comprehensive measure of the maturity and sophistication of the services sector.
Variables Influencing Chewing Electromyography Response in Food Texture Evaluation
2004
Abstract Food choice is linked to many characteristics, among which texture is one of the most important. As a consequence, texture is a quality parameter that needs to be understood on a global perspective, including physical and psychological aspects. Texture perception is gained from a complex process of chewing, and not from a single action. Thus, there is a need for techniques that consider the whole process of chewing. Among those techniques, electromyography (EMG) seems promising. Different variables influence the chewing response as registered through EMG. Some of those variables are linked to the experimental set-up, where there is a need for standardization as well as data process…
Adolescent Sexual and Emotional Development: The Role of Romantic Relationships
2015
Abstract The physiological processes occurring during adolescence, often so abrupt, threaten the permanence of the previously constructed sense of identity, questioning the patterns and representations that had governed the relations of the teenager with his body and with his relational systems. Although puberty is not only reduced to sexual transformations, definitions centered mainly on this aspect can be found in the literature. In fact, pubertal development is the acquisition disclosure index of adult reproductive capacity. Objective Explore the process of increasing involvement of the adolescent in an emotional and sexual relationship with a partner. Methodology: It will try to underst…
Shared Mobility in the Process of City-Transport Coevolution: Emerging Geographies and Policy Challenges
2020
In the broader context of the relationship between transport and urban development, this chapter discusses the impact that shared mobility services may have on the spatial and functional organisation of cities. In the first section, we review the relationship between transport and urban development in an historical perspective, with a view to the implications that the diverse mobility systems can have on space and the environment. We then examine the cultural and technological drivers for the spreading of shared mobility in contemporary cities, as well as the response these services can provide to different mobility needs in urban areas. In the concluding section, we discuss in what circums…
A Survey of Teacher Perceptions of the School Psychologist's Skills in the Consultation Process An Exploratory Factor Analysis
2004
The main purpose of this study is to present the construction and validation process of an instrument designed to evaluate the professional skills of the school psychologist in the teacher consultation process. Initially, an extensive list of items was created which evaluated the characteristics of school psychologists in this area. After carrying out a pilot study and making the necessary modi.cations, we presented the scale to a sample of 157 primary and secondary public school teachers in the Valencian Community. An exploratory factor analysis was carried out on the main components, applying the corresponding varimax rotation. The results show a factorial structure made up of three comp…
Diagnóstico en educación y transiciones
2014
The good process or the great illusion? A spatial perspective on public participation in Danish municipal wind turbine planning
2021
This paper explores the nature of public participation in Danish municipal wind power planning. Although the procedure for involving citizens embedded in the environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure for wind power projects is often praised for its participatory character, the approach is not without problems. In this paper, we identify the limitations and potentials of the public space provided for citizen involvement. By means of Gaventa’s terminology suggesting a continuum of public spaces for participation, the paper shows how the planning process can be approached from different spatial perspectives – each of them illuminating different forms of power, resistance and opportunitie…
Inviting Participation in Organizational Change Through Ownership Talk
2010
This article takes the practitioner’s view toward and focuses on participation through talk within multiparty settings of one process consulting case. From the perspective of discursive psychology, the authors ask what happens in interaction when the consultant is working to put into practice the ideal of active client participation in organizational change. They argue that participation is established when psychological ownership of the process is displayed through talk in interaction. This happens when what the authors call “ownership talk” is used: A person is sharing his or her views, interests, and experiences related to the change process. The authors provide detailed observations and …
Towards a Secure DevOps Approach for Cyber-Physical Systems
2020
With the expansion of cyber-physical systems (CPSs) across critical and regulated industries, systems must be continuously updated to remain resilient. At the same time, they should be extremely secure and safe to operate and use. The DevOps approach caters to business demands of more speed and smartness in production, but it is extremely challenging to implement DevOps due to the complexity of critical CPSs and requirements from regulatory authorities. In this study, expert opinions from 33 European companies expose the gap in the current state of practice on DevOps-oriented continuous development and maintenance. The study contributes to research and practice by identifying a set of needs…
Problems in the Interplay of IS Development and IT Operations: An Alignment Analysis
2013
This chapter addresses the interplay of IS development and IT operations in system development projects, as seen from the perspective of IT operations. The underlying perspective is that a well-performed interplay of the two domains is essential, both for the successful development of a new information system, as well as for its subsequent operation. In this chapter, we use alignment theory to analyse data from a Delphi study in order to investigate the interplay of the two areas. The chapter concludes that the two areas are often unsatisfactorily aligned and that improving their interplay must be a priority for IS development and IT operations alike.
