Rhombi-chain Bose-Hubbard model: Geometric frustration and interactions

We explore the effects of geometric frustration within a one-dimensional Bose-Hubbard model using a chain of rhombi subject to a magnetic flux. The competition of tunnelling, self-interaction and magnetic flux gives rise to the emergence of a pair-superfluid (pair-Luttinger liquid) phase besides the more conventional Mott-insulator and superfluid (Luttinger liquid) phases. We compute the complete phase diagram of the model by identifying characteristic properties of the pair-Luttinger liquid phase such as pair correlation functions and structure factors and find that the pair-Luttinger liquid phase is very sensitive to changes away from perfect frustration (half-flux). Blends of Semiflexible Polymers: Interplay of Nematic Order and Phase Separation

Mixtures of semiflexible polymers with a mismatch in either their persistence lengths or their contour lengths are studied by Density Functional Theory and Molecular Dynamics simulation. Considering lyotropic solutions under good solvent conditions, the mole fraction and pressure is systematically varied for several cases of bending stiffness κ (the normalized persistence length) and chain length N. For binary mixtures with different chain length (i.e., NA=16, NB=32 or 64) but the same stiffness, isotropic-nematic phase coexistence is studied. Competition of electron-phonon mediated superconductivity and Stoner magnetism on a flat band

The effective attractive interaction between electrons, mediated by electron-phonon coupling, is a well-established mechanism of conventional superconductivity. In metals exhibiting a Fermi surface, the critical temperature of superconductivity is exponentially smaller than the characteristic phonon energy. Therefore, such superconductors are found only at temperatures below a few kelvin. Systems with flat energy bands have been suggested to cure the problem and provide a route to room-temperature superconductivity, but previous studies are limited to only BCS models with an effective attractive interaction. ANOTĀCIJA Promocijas darbs veltīts Latvijas tautsaimniecībai aktuālu farmaceitiski aktīvo vielu (FAV) izpētei. Veikti apskatīto vielu kristālsolvātu meklējumi un iegūtas līdz šim neaprakstītas vielu kristāliskās formas. Novērtēta iegūto formu stabilitāte iegūšanas, ražošanas un uzglabāšanas apstākļos. Atsevišķām FAV veikta struktūras noteikšana, gan izmantojot pulvera rentgendifraktometriju, gan monokristālu rentgendifraktometriju. Iegūtie rezultāti ir aktuāli zāļu ražotājiem, kā arī tiem ir zinātniska nozīme no FAV īpašību apzināšanas un metožu attīstības viedokļa.
