DNA-binding of zinc(II) and nickel(II) salphen-like complexes extrapolated at 1 M salt concentration: Removing the ionic strength bias in physiologic…
2020
Abstract The DNA-binding of two salphen-like metal complexes of nickel(II) (1) and zinc(II) (2) was investigated in different ionic strength solutions by absorption spectroscopy. The data analysis allowed us to obtain the values of their extrapolated DNA-binding constant in physiological conditions, with DNA-binding strength in the order Ni > Zn, and to give relative weight to the electrostatic and non-electrostatic contributions to their DNA-interaction.

Late reactions to patch test preparations with reduced concentrations of p-phenylenediamine : a multicentre investigation of the German Contact Derma…
2011
Background. p-Phenylenediamine (PPD) 1% in petrolatum has been shown in a prospective study to elicit late reactions in 1.5% of routine patch tests, which may be indicative of patch test sensitization. Objectives. To assess the frequency of late reactions to reduced PPD patch test concentrations. Methods. In 1838 patients, PPD was tested at three concentrations (0.5% pet., group I; 0.4% pet., group II; and 0.35% pet., group III). Patch tests were read on D1 (D2) to D3 (D4); additional late readings were performed on D7, D14, and D21. Patients who were not able to return for all scheduled late readings were telephoned on D7, D14, and D21, and questioned about a reaction at the patch test sit…
Fine tuning of the photophysical properties of cofacial diporphyrins via the use of different spacers
2002
The crystal and molecular structures of two unmetallated diporphyrin species using the biphenylene and dibenzofuran spacers, H4(DPB) and H4(DPO), respectively (DPB 4 − =1,8-bis[5-(2,8,13,17-tetraethyl-3,7,12,18-tetramethylporphyrinyl)]biphenylene; DPO 4 − =4,6-bis[5-(2,8,13,17-tetraethyl-3,7,12,18-tetramethylporphyrinyl)]dibenzofuran), are reported. These data are compared to their literature metallated analogs, stressing on the properties related to the flexibility of the ligands, ··· and M···M interactions. In addition, the lowest energy fluorescence properties of these non-phosphorescent diporphyrin compounds as well as three other related species, H4(DPA), H4(DPX), and H4(DPS) (DPA 4 − …
Dendron to central core S1-S1 and S2-S(n) (n1) energy transfers in artificial special pairs containing dendrimers with limited numbers of conformatio…
2013
Two dendrimers consisting of a cofacial free-base bisporphyrin held by a biphenylene spacer and function- alized with 4-benzeneoxomethane (5-(4-benzene)tri-10,15,20-(4-n-octyl- benzene)zinc(II)porphyrin) using either five or six of the six available meso-positions, have been synthesized and characterized as models for the an- tenna effect in Photosystems I and II. The presence of the short linkers, -CH2O-, and long C8H17 soluble side chains substantially reduces the number of conformers (foldamers) compared with classic dendrimers built with longer flexible chains. This simpli- fication assists in their spectroscopic and photophysical analysis, notably with respect to fluorescence resonance…
Intramolecular electronic excitation energy transfer in donor∕acceptor dyads studied by time and frequency resolved single molecule spectroscopy
2008
Electronic excitation energy transfer has been studied by single molecule spectroscopy in donor/acceptor dyads composed of a perylenediimide donor and a terrylenediimide acceptor linked by oligo(phenylene) bridges of two different lengths. For the shorter bridge (three phenylene units) energy is transferred almost quantitatively from the donor to the acceptor, while for the longer bridge (seven phenylene units) energy transfer is less efficient as indicated by the occurrence of donor and acceptor emission. To determine energy transfer rates and efficiencies at the single molecule level, several methods have been employed. These comprise time-correlated single photon counting techniques at r…
New antifungals selected by molecular topology.
1999
Abstract Molecular topology has been applied to find the new lead antimycotic compounds. Among the selected compounds stands out 3,3′-(4,4′ - Biphenylene)bis(2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium chloride), Benztropine mesylate and Dicyclopentamethylenethiuram disulphide, with minimum inhibitory concentrations between 1.6 and 2 μg / mL.

Complexation and Extraction of PAHs to the Aqueous Phase with a Dinuclear Pt II Diazapyrenium‐Based Metallacycle
2010
New palladium and platinum metallacycles have been synthesized by reaction between a 2,7-diazapyrenium-based ligand and Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes. The inclusion complexes between the metallacycles and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in CD(3)NO(2) and D(2)O were studied by NMR spectroscopy. The structures of the inclusion complexes of the Pt metallacycle as host with pyrene, phenanthrene, and triphenylene were confirmed by single crystal X-ray crystallography. The association constants between the Pt metallacycle and the selected PAHs were determined in CH(3)CN following the characteristic charge-transfer band displayed in their UV/Vis absorption spectrum. Although in aqueous solut…
