Correction: Association of ionizing radiation dose from common medical diagnostic procedures and lymphoma risk in the Epilymph case-control study
2020
International audience; Medical diagnostic X-rays are an important source of ionizing radiation (IR) exposure in the general population; however, it is unclear if the resulting low patient doses increase lymphoma risk. We examined the association between lifetime medical diagnostic X-ray dose and lymphoma risk, taking into account potential confounding factors, including medical history. The international Epilymph study (conducted in the Czech-Republic, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain) collected self-reported information on common diagnostic X-ray procedures from 2,362 lymphoma cases and 2,465 frequency-matched (age, sex, country) controls. Individual lifetime cumulative bone mar…
MALT1 is deregulated by both chromosomal translocation and amplification in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma
2003
The MALT1 gene was identified through its involvement in t(11;18)(q21;q21), seen in 30% of cases of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma. Here, we show that deregulated MALT1 expression may occur in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) of various histologic subtypes either through translocation to the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGH) locus or by genomic amplification. First, 2 cases, one case of MALT lymphoma and another of aggressive marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) with t(14;18)(q32;q21), cytogenetically identical to the translocation involving BCL2, were shown by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to involve MALT1, which lies about 5 Mb centromeric of BCL2. Molecular cloni…
Hypothyroidism in patients treated with radiotherapy for head and neck carcinoma: standardised long-term follow-up study
2016
AbstractObjective:Hypothyroidism is a common complication when radiotherapy is part of the treatment for head and neck tumours. This study aimed to show the incidence of hypothyroidism and possible risk factors in these patients. Methods:Factors related to the population, tumour, treatment and occurrence of hypothyroidism were analysed in 241 patients diagnosed with head and neck carcinoma. Results:Approximately 53 per cent of patients were diagnosed with radiation-induced hypothyroidism. Its occurrence was related to: tumour location, laryngeal surgery type, neck dissection type, post-operative complications, cervical radiotherapy and radiotherapy unit type (linear particle accelerator or te…
Total, red and processed meat consumption and human health: an umbrella review of observational studies
2022
Meat consumption has represented an important evolutionary step for humans. However, modern patterns of consumption, including excess intake, type of meat and cooking method have been the focus of attention as a potential cause of rise in non-communicable diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between total, red and processed meat with health outcomes and to assess the level of evidence by performing a systematic search of meta-analyses of prospective cohort studies. Convincing evidence of the association between increased risk of (i) colorectal adenoma, lung cancer, CHD and stroke, (ii) colorectal adenoma, ovarian, prostate, renal and stomach cancers, CHD and st…
[Bilateral testicular lymphoma. Case report]
2008
A case of bilateral testicular lymphoma with involvement of skin and oropharynx was described. After a review of literature, the Authors underline the clinical features focusing the diagnostic approaches and the therapeutics options.
Randomized phase III study of whole-brain radiotherapy for primary CNS lymphoma
2015
Objective: This is the final report of a phase III randomized study to evaluate whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) in primary therapy of primary CNS lymphoma (PCNSL) after a median follow-up of 81.2 months. Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed PCNSL were randomized to high-dose methotrexate (HDMTX)–based chemotherapy alone or followed by WBRT. We hypothesized that the omission of WBRT would not compromise overall survival (OS; primary endpoint), using a noninferiority design with a margin of 0.9. Results: In the per-protocol population (n = 320), WBRT nonsignificantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) (median 18.2 vs 11.9 months, hazard ratio [HR] 0.83 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0…
Phase ia/ii, two-arm, open-label, dose-escalation study of oral panobinostat administered via two dosing schedules in patients with advanced hematolo…
2013
Panobinostat is a potent oral pandeacetylase inhibitor that leads to acetylation of intracellular proteins, inhibits cellular proliferation and induces apoptosis in leukemic cell lines. A phase Ia/II study was designed to determine the maximum-tolerated dose (MTD) of daily panobinostat, administered on two schedules: three times a week every week or every other week on a 28-day treatment cycle in patients with advanced hematologic malignancies. The criteria for hematologic dose-limiting toxicities differed between patients with indications associated with severe cytopenias at baseline (leukemia and myeloid disorders) and those less commonly associated with baseline cytopenias (lymphoma and …
The prognostic value of biological markers in paediatric Hodgkin lymphoma
2015
Abstract Background Many biological and inflammatory markers have been proposed as having a prognostic value at diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), but very few have been validated in paediatric patients. We explored the significance of these markers in a large population of 769 affected children. Patients and methods By using the database of patients enrolled in A.I.E.O.P. (Associazione Italiana di Emato-Oncologia Pediatrica) trial LH2004 for paediatric HL, we identified 769 consecutive patients treated with curative intent from 1st June 2004 to 1st April 2014 with ABVD (doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine), or hybrid COPP/ABV (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisone, pr…
Updated review on prognostic factors in mycosis fungoides and new skin lymphoma trials
2021
BACKGROUND Ten-year survival rates in mycosis fungoides (MF) broadly varies, however, there is no standardized prognostic index available. This is presumably due to low prevalence, heterogeneity, and diagnostic challenges in MF. Recent studies have focused on identifying objective prognostic indices by using different parameters for survival determinants. The Cutaneous Lymphoma International Prognostic Index (CLIPI) and the Prospective Cutaneous Lymphoma International Prognostic Index (PROCLIPI) represent prototypical studies that identify prognostic factors, seeking to improve management and outcomes in early-stage MF. Detecting these factors and stratifying MF patients according to their …
Malignant lymphoma of the oral cavity and the maxillofacial region: overall survival prognostic factors
2013
Objective: To identify the overall survival and prognostic factors of malignant lymphoma of the oral cavity and the maxillofacial region. Study Design: Clinical records data were obtained in order to determine overall survival at 2 and 5 years, the individual survival percentage of each possible prognostic factor with the actuarial technique, and the survival regarding the possible prognostic factors with the actuarial technique and the Log-rank and Cox's regression tests. Results: Of 151 subjects, an overall survival was 60% at 2 years, and 45% at 5 years. The multivariate analysis demonstrated statistically significant differences for clinical stage (p=0.002), extranodal involvement (p=0.…
