Comprehensive analysis of photoinitiators and primary aromatic amines in food contact materials using liquid chromatography High-Resolution Mass Spec…

2018

Abstract A comprehensive strategy for the analysis of UV-ink photoinitiators and primary aromatic amines (PAAS) in food-packaging materials such as, juice tetrabricks, pouches and bags has been developed using liquid chromatography coupled to Orbitrap High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC-Orbitrap-HRMS). The methodology includes both quantitative target analysis and post-run target screening analysis. The quantitative method was validated after a previous optimisation of the single-stage Orbitrap fragmentation through the Higher-Energy Collisional Dissociation (HCD) Cell. Overall, the quantitative method presented recoveries ranging from 78% to 119%, with a precision (RSD) lower than 20%, f…

Photoimaging through in-Situ Photopolymerization of Heterobifunctional Mesogenic Compounds in Liquid Crystalline State

2007

A series of heterobifunctional mesogenic biphenyl esters having two different polymerizable groups, i.e., acryl and diacetylene groups, were synthesized and their thermal behaviors and polymerization investigated. All compounds showed enantiotropic transitions. Under POM, highly birefringent focal-conic fan textures appeared on heating and cooling from the isotropic melt. Compounds 6−8 having a butyl spacer between a biphenyl and a diacetylene group exhibited LC phases even at room temperature. The X-ray diffractograms of compounds 6−8 showed a set of reflections in the small-angle region. They consisted of more than three sharp diffraction peaks with d spacings in the ratio of 1:1/2:1/3, s…

Novel Multifunctional Polymeric Photoinitiators and Photo-Coinitiators Derived from Hyperbranched Polyglycerol

2007

A new class of hyperbranched PPIs and PPCs have been prepared. The introduction of compatibilizing groups such as MEEA or trimethylacetate enhanced their solubility in radiation-curable formulations and led to an improved photoactivity compared with the corresponding MPI and MPC. Although the molecular weights of the subject PPIs and PPCs exceeded 800 g mol -1 , the viscosities of the radiation-curable formulations were still suitable for inkjet application. The combination of high photoactivity, low viscosity, and low extract-ability after curing rendered the resulting hyperbranched PPIs and PPCs attractive as components in the inkjet ink for inkjet printing, e.g., in food packaging.

Non-ionic photo-acid generators for applications in two-photon lithography

2009

Non-ionic photoacid generators (PAGs) have been designed and synthesized for use in two-photon lithography (TPL). The chromophores in these new PAGs are covalently linked to the photocleavable group by a flexible joint. Their thermal stability, solubility and efficiency to produce acid under both one- and two-photon excitation were characterized. The potential of these PAGs for TPL was tested in two negative-tone resist systems relying on different mechanisms: free-radical/cationic polymerization or a cationically initiated cross-linking reaction. These PAGs needed lower threshold power for polymerization compared to a commercially available photoinitiator, isopropylthioxanthone, and a phot…

Influence of different photoinitiators on the resistance of union in bovine dentin: Experimental and microscopic study

2021

Background To evaluate in vitro the influence of photoinitiators on the microtensile strength of adhesive systems and composite resins in bovine dentin. Material and Methods Forty dentin obtained from bovine teeth were randomly distributed in four groups (n = 10) according to the different adhesive systems and composite resins used: G1 - AAPS + VAPS (Ambar APS + Vittra APS); G2- AAPS + O (Ambar APS + Opallis); G3 - A + VAPS (Ambar + Vittra APS) and G4 - A + O (Ambar + Opallis). After restoration with the composite, the samples were sectioned to obtain toothpicks that were subjected to the microtensile and nanofiltration test (1.0 mm/min). Results The Kruskal-Wallis test did not show signifi…

Nanostructuring with a crosslinkable discotic material.

2007

A high-yielding synthesis afforded a hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene carrying acrylate units at the end of six attached alkyl spacers. The polymerization of these acrylate moieties could be initiated with thermal energy and through direct photoactivation without the addition of a photoinitiator. This allowed the organization of the liquid-crystalline material to be fixed in either the crystalline state or the mesophase, which preserved the organization in the respective phase. The use of a focused synchrotron beam permitted selected regions of a thin film to be rendered insoluble. After "developing" the film in this lithographic process by dissolving the soluble, unpolymerized material, defined…

Optical Properties of Composite Films Based on Copper Chloride in PMMA Matrix

2014

The composite lms based on PMMA, CuCl2 and photoinitiator were prepared.Transmission spectra of the lms with and without photoinitiator were measured. The holo-graphic gratings were recorded, the sensitivity of the lms and surface structure of gratingswere studied. Microanalysis of the lms was performed in di erent part of structure elementsof grating.

Poly(methyl ethylene phosphate) hydrogels

2020

Abstract A degradable and water-soluble polyphosphoester (PPE), namely poly(methyl ethylene phosphate)-dimethacrylate (PMEP-DMA), was synthesized and crosslinked by UV irradiation to prepare PPE-hydrogels. Hydrogels with 10 and 15 wt% of PMEP were prepared after UV-irradiation with an additional 0.2 wt% of photoinitiator. The colorless and transparent PPE hydrogels were studied for their swelling and water uptake. The rheological analysis demonstrated their viscoelastic behavior. The PPE hydrogels were compared to poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) hydrogels prepared from PEG-macromonomers of similar degrees of polymerization. Hydrolysis experiments proved a successful disintegration of the PPE hy…

Fabrication of Chemically Tunable, Hierarchically Branched Polymeric Nanostructures by Multi-branched Anodic Aluminum Oxide Templates

2016

In this paper, a template-assisted replication method is demonstrated for the fabrication of hierarchically branched polymeric nanostructures composed of post-modifiable poly(pentafluorophenyl acrylate). Anodic aluminum oxide templates with various shapes of hierarchically branched pores are fabricated by an asymmetric two-step anodization process. The hierarchical polymeric nanostructures are obtained by infiltration of pentafluorophenyl acrylate with a cross-linker and photoinitiator, followed by polymerization and selective removal of the template. Furthermore, the nanostructures containing reactive pentafluorophenyl ester are modified with spiropyran amine via post-polymerization modifi…

Liquid Crystalline Elastomers—Characterization as Networks

1994

Abstract This paper summarises the properties of archiral and chiral liquid crystalline (LC) elastomers, the latter of which have found interest due to their piezoelectric properties. In addition the formation of new LC elastomers by a radical polymerization of acrylate groups covalently linked to LC polymers was investigated. This was done concerning the progress of the crosslinking reaction, concerning the influence of the crosslinking on the LC phases and concerning the network properties (swelling ratio and elastic modulus) of the resulting elastomers. It turns out that the networks prepared in this way are very soft and their crosslinking density is low. This can be explained assuming …
