Hierarchical Self-Organization of Perylene Bisimide–Melamine Assemblies to Fluorescent Mesoscopic Superstructures

A series of three perylene tetracarboxylic acid bisimide dyes 3a-c bearing phenoxy substituents at the four bay positions of the perylene core were synthesized and their complexation behavior to complementary ditopic dialkyl melamines 8a-c was investigated. Binding constants and Gibbs binding energies for the hydrogen bonds between the imide and the complementary melamine moiety have been determined in several solvents by NMR and UV/Vis titration experiments with monotopic model compounds 5 and 9. Evidence for two spectroscopically different dimers of light-harvesting complex I from green plants

A preparation consisting of isolated dimeric peripheral antenna complexes from green plant photosystem I (light-harvesting complex I or LHCI) has been characterized by means of (polarized) steady-state absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy at low temperatures. We show that this preparation can be described reasonably well by a mixture of two types of dimers. In the first dimer about 10% of all Q(y)() absorption of the chlorophylls arises from two chlorophylls with absorption and emission maxima at about 711 and 733 nm, respectively, whereas in the second about 10% of the absorption arises from two chlorophylls with absorption and emission maxima at about 693 and 702 nm, respectively. Labdane Diterpenes from Stachys plumosa

Three new labdane diterpenoids were isolated from the aerial parts of Stachys plumosa. The first two (1, 2) were the dextrorotatory enantiomers of the known 6-deoxyandalusol and 13-epijabugodiol. Structures were determined using NMR and MS techniques. The absolute stereochemistry of the third compound (3) was not experimentally proved.

Towards a revisitation of vesuvianite-group nomenclature: the crystal structure of Ti-rich vesuvianite from Alchuri, Shigar Valley

Vesuvianite containing 5.85 wt% TiO2from an Alpine-cleft-type assemblage outcropped near Alchuri, Shigar Valley, Northern Areas, has been investigated by means of electron microprobe analyses, gas-chromatographic analysis of H2O, X-ray powder diffraction, single-crystal X-ray structure refinement,27Al NMR,57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and optical measurements. Biologically Active Triterpene Saponins from Callus Tissue of Polygala amarella

A new bioactive saponin (1), together with a known saponin (polygalasaponin XXVIII) has been isolated from the callus tissue culture of Polygala amarella. Based on spectroscopic data, especially direct and long-range heteronuclear 2D NMR analysis and on chemical transformations, the structure of 1 was elucidated as 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl presenegenin-28-O-beta-D-galactopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 --> 4)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 3)]-beta-D-fucopyranoside. Both saponins showed significant immunological properties based on the enhancement of granulocyte phagocytosis in vitro.

Biogenic synthesis of palladium nanoparticles using Pulicaria glutinosa extract and their catalytic activity towards the Suzuki coupling reaction.

Green synthesis of nanomaterials finds the edge over chemical methods due to its environmental compatibility. Herein, we report a facile and eco-friendly method for the synthesis of palladium (Pd) nanoparticles (NPs) using an aqueous solution of Pulicaria glutinosa, a plant widely found in a large region of Saudi Arabia, as a bioreductant. Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometric Determination of Cobalt in Foods

A method is reported for determination of chromium in foodstuffs. Organic matter is digested with nitric acid, followed by oxidation to Cr(VI) and extraction with methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) after HCl addition. Chromium determinations are performed by flame absorption spectroscopy. Absence of interferences is verified and recovery tests are performed on food samples. Quantitation limit (3.8 ng/mL), accuracy (NBS Standard Reference Material 1,573 Tomato Leaves, 4,500 +/- 500 ng/g, found 3,860 +/- 409 ng/g), and precision (CV for vegetable matrix = 9.05%, CV for animal matrix = 14.95%) of the procedure are evaluated.

Spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline with an oxidative column in a FIA assembly

Abstract A single channel FIA assembly is proposed for the spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline, the aqueous sample solution is directly injected into the carrier stream leading the sample through a manganese dioxide column at 80°C, and on to the spectrophotometer flow-cell. The calibration graph is linear up to 17 ppm of adrenaline. The influence of other substances has been studied and the method has been applied to the determination of adrenaline in a pharmaceutical formulation.

Two new methods of capillary zone electrophoresis based on aqueous phosphate running buffers with UV spectrophotometric detection were developed and optimized for the determination of eight carboxylates as copper complexes. Metalcomplexes are negatively charged, so measurements were made as anion analyses with flow reversal in the capillary. Two flow modifiers were used: a common tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide (TTAB) and a new ionic liquid dimethyldinonylammonium bromide (DMDNAB). The methods were compared to each other.
