Controlling laser assisted radiative recombination with few-cycle laser pulses

We report on the radiative recombination of a free electron with a hydrogenic ion in the presence of a few-cycle pulses. It has been shown that the main features of the emission spectra may be described in the framework of a semiclassical model in which the recombination is viewed as a two-step process. The spectra width of the emitted photon energy is practically confined in a range of values in which the emission is classically allowed. Moreover, it has been found that spectra width can be controlled by varying the carrier envelope phase and/or the pulse peak intensity.

First Specifications of a PSTM Working In the Infrared

One of the most promising extension of the photon scanning tunneling microscope (PSTM) is its use as a locally resolved spectroscopic tool. The infrared (IR) spectral window offers a wide variety of interesting applications since many materials have a well-defined signature in this range. We have undertaken the experimental modifications that are necessary to operate the existing PSTM’s in the IR domain. Twin axial vortices generated by Fibonacci lenses.

2013

Optical vortex beams, generated by Diffractive Optical Elements (DOEs), are capable of creating optical traps and other multifunctional micromanipulators for very specific tasks in the microscopic scale. Using the Fibonacci sequence, we have discovered a new family of DOEs that inherently behave as bifocal vortex lenses, and where the ratio of the two focal distances approaches the golden mean. The disctintive optical properties of these Fibonacci vortex lenses are experimentally demonstrated. We believe that the versatility and potential scalability of these lenses may allow for new applications in micro and nanophotonics.

Test of the electric charge conservation law with Borexino detector

International audience; The new limit on the electron lifetime is obtained from data of the Borexino experiment. The expected signal from the e → γν decay mode is a 256 keV photon detected in liquid scintillator. Because of the extremely low radioactive background level in the Borexino detector it was possible to improve the previous measurement by two orders of magnitude.

Search for neutralino pair production at root s = 189 GeV

2001

A search for pair-production of neutralinos at a LEP centre-of-mass energy of 189 GeV gave no evidence for a signal. This limits the neutralino production cross-section and excludes regions in the parameter space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM).

Multiexciton complex from extrinsic centers in AlGaAs epilayers on Ge and Si substrates

The multiexciton properties of extrinsic centers from AlGaAs layers on Ge and Si substrates are addressed. The two photon cascade is found both in steady state and in time resolved experiments. Polarization analysis of the photoluminescence provides clearcut attribution to neutral biexciton complexes. Our findings demonstrate the prospect of exploiting extrinsic centers for generating entangled photon pairs on a Si based device. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.

Design of dispersion-managed fiber systems for transmitting chirp-free Gaussian pulses

International audience; We present a general method to analytically design a dispersion-managed (DM) fiber system for any desired fiber (dispersion, nonlinearity and losses) and pulse (width and energy) parameters. This analytical design allows one to transmit chirp-free Gaussian pulses (for very long distances) in almost all kinds of DM fiber systems that have appeared so far in the literature, including systems with dispersion map length greater, equal or shorter with respect to the amplification period.

BODIPY dyes functionalized with 2-(2-dimethylaminophenyl)ethanol moieties as selective OFF–ON fluorescent chemodosimeters for the nerve agent mimics …

[EN] Two OFF-ON fluorescent chemodosimeters based on a BODIPY core for the detection of nerve agent mimics have been synthesized. Their reactivity towards diethylcyanophosphonate (DCNP) and diisopropylfluorophosphate (DFP) has been tested in organic and aqueous phase. These chemodosimeters selectively detect the nerve agent mimics with good LODs. The chemodosimeters hold their sensing properties on solid supports, allowing the preparation of a hand held sensing kit. The sensing in solid-liquid phase has been demonstrated. The X-ray structure of compound 2 has been resolved.
