Timing of the emergence of the Europe-Sicily bridge (40-17 cal ka BP) and its implications for the spread of modern humans

The submerged sill in the Strait of Messina, which is located today at a minimum depth of 81 m below sea level (bsl), represents the only land connection between Sicily and mainland Italy (and thus Europe) during the last lowstand when the sea level locally stood at about 126 m bsl. Today, the sea crossing to Sicily, although it is less than 4 km at the narrowest point, faces hazardous sea conditions, made famous by the myth of Scylla and Charybdis. This work focuses on the distribution of LINE-1 (a Long Interspersed Nuclear Element) in primates and its role during evolution and as a constituent of the architecture of primate genomes. To pinpoint the LINE-1 repeat distribution and its role among primates, LINE-1 probes were mapped onto chromosomes of Homo sapiens (Hominidae, Catarrhini), Sapajus apella, and Cebus capucinus (Cebidae, Platyrrhini) using fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH). The choice of platyrrhine species are due to the fact they are taxa characterised by a high level of rearrangements; for this reason, they could be a useful model for the study of LINE-1 and chromosome evolution. This chapter provides a detailed study on the harvest of the energy contained in raindrops by means of piezoelectric transducers. The energy harvester has the role of an electric source, able to recharge storage devices of small electronic components, such wireless sensors, by using the vibrational energy released by the drops hitting the transducer, reducing in such a way the chemical waste of conventional batteries. Study of the hydrolysis of lithium hydride

The hydrolysis of LiH at room temperature and under low water vapor pressure (PH2O < 10 hPa) is investigated by thermogravimetry and FTIR spectroscopy with low sample mass. Then, to be closer to industrial conditions, hydrolysis of LiH is studied by manometry either in closed (adjustable PH2O) or open (constant PH2O) system using larger amounts of sample and heavy water. Products of the reaction are characterized by X-ray diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy. The first set of experiments show that the mechanism of hydrolysis starts with the formation of lithium oxide Li2O. Una delle fonti di conflitto all’interno delle relazioni omosessuali ruota intorno ad uno scarso equilibrio tra partner, all'omofobia interiorizzata o ad una condizione a rischio outing .
