Heat transfer and flow resistance for stacked wire gauzes: Experiments and modelling

Abstract The study deals with the flow resistance and heat transport properties of woven and knitted wire gauzes stacked in a tubular apparatus. The experimental programme included flow resistance and heat transfer experiments performed for air flow ( Re  = 2–300) using three woven gauzes and one knitted gauze. During the heat transfer experiments, the gauzes were heated by electric current flowing directly through them. The models describing the flow resistance and the heat transfer were put forward. Active mixing inside double emulsion segments in continuous flow

Fast mixing is essential for many microfluidic applications, especially for flow at low Reynolds numbers. A capillary tube-in-tube coaxial flow setup in combination with a glass microreactor was used to produce immiscible multiphase segments. These double emulsion segments are composed of an organic solvent as the shell (outer) phase and a completely fluorinated liquid (Fluorinert® FC-40) as the core (inner) phase. The capillary waves' contribution to wind-wave generation

Published theories and observations have shown that dissipation of gravity waves implies frequency downshifting of wave energy. Hence, for wind-waves, the wind energy input to the highest frequencies is of special interest. Here it is shown that this input is vital, because the direct wind energy input obtained by the air-pressure’s work on most gravity waves is slightly less than what the waves need to grow. Further, the wind’s input of the angular momentum that waves need to grow is found to be absent at most gravity wave frequencies. Engineering Polymer Microparticles by Droplet Microfluidics

Capillary-based flow-focusing and co-flow microsystems were developed to produce sphere-like polymer microparticles of adjustable sizes in the range of 50 to 600 μm with a narrow size distribution (CV < 5%) and different morphologies (core-shell, janus, and capsules). Rod-like particles whose length was conveniently adjusted between 400 μm and few millimeters were also produced using the same microsystems. Fluorescent-Cavity Host: An Efficient Probe to Study Supramolecular Recognition Mechanisms

Using fluorometry to study the interactions between guests and host cavities is often challenging, especially for hosts with small cavities because the fluorophore may not be close to the binding site. Therefore, it is critical to overcome this hurdle to broaden the applicability of fluorometry in supramolecular chemistry. Abstract A screening strategy based on hyphenated capillary electrophoresis and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (CE–ICP-MS) was developed to classify phosphorylated ligands according to their europium(III) binding affinity in a hydro-organic medium (sodium formate, pH 3.7, H2O/MeOH 90:10, v/v). The demir kapija ophiolite, Macedonia (FYROM): A Snapshot of subduction initiation within a back-arc

The Demir Kapija ophiolitic complex in southern Macedonia–FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) represents the southernmost exposure of the Tethyan Eastern Vardar ophiolitic unit in the Eastern Mediterranean. It consists of a mafic volcanic sequence (pillow basalts, sheeted dyke diabases and gabbros) that was subsequently intruded by island arc magmas with and without adakitic affinity.
