Saproxylic beetle assemblages in the Mediterranean region:Impact of forest management on richness and structure
2010
Forests cover almost 30% of the Mediterranean region today, yet forest management activities have influenced structure and composition of both natural and planted forests. To date no study has been conducted to evaluate the impact of forest management on saproxylic beetle assemblages, although it is known that the Mediterranean is a biodiversity hotspot with a long-lasting human pressure on natural habitats. We provide an overview of saproxylic beetle assemblages of three forest types (mature Pinus halepensis forests, mature Pinus brutia forests, young Quercus calliprinos forests) in the East Mediterranean region using a one-year sample from 12 forest plots located in the north of Israel. T…
A survey on emotion detection: A lexicon based backtracking approach for detecting emotion from Bengali text
2017
Emotion recognition ability has been introduced as a core component of emotional competence. Every emotion has different ways to be expressed such as text, speech, lyrics etc. This paper reflects the current experimental study and their outcomes on emotion detection from different textual data. In case of lexicon-based analysis, the position of emotional lexicons really varies the state of an emotion. In this empirical study, our focus was to find how people use the emotional keywords to express their emotions. We have presented an emotion detection model to extract emotion from Bengali text at the sentence level. In order to detect emotion from Bengali text, we have considered two basic em…
Effectiveness of mandibular advancement appliances in treating obstructive sleep apnea syndrome: A systematic review
2015
Objectives/Hypothesis Mandibular advancement devices are an alternative to continuous positive airway pressure for patients with mild or moderate obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS). The main aim of this review was to assess the effectiveness of different devices in treating OSAHS, based on polysomnographic measurements such as the apnea/hypopnea index (AHI) and oxygen saturation, and on changes in the upper airway and improvements in the most common symptoms: snoring and somnolence. Their adverse effects were also noted. Study Design Systematic review. Methods Following an exhaustive search in the Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases, 22 articles published in the p…
Cnoty jako dyspozycje psychiczne i ich wpływ na jakość życia współczesnego człowieka
2015
his paper explores the problem of virtue, understood as a mental disposition and its impact on the existence of human subject. The aim of this analysis is to verify the hypothesis of a relationship between the possession of specific virtues and a sense of the quality of life. The research method is based on an analysis of the literature. The research material consists of the latest publications of leading psychologists, experts in the field of positive psychology, Polish and foreign, and an extensive literature in the field of philosophy. Based on the…
The effect of pH on polymorph formation of the pharmaceutically active compound tianeptine.
2012
The anti-depressant pharmaceutical tianeptine has been investigated to determine the dynamics of polymorph formation under various pH conditions. By varying the pH two crystalline polymorphs were isolated. The molecular and crystal structures have been determined to identify the two polymorphs. One polymorph is an amino carboxylic acid and the other polymorph is a zwitterion. In the solid state the tianeptine moieties are bonded through hydrogen bonds. The zwitterion was found to be less stable and transformed to the acid form. During this investigation an amorphous form was identified.
The role of the happiness philosophy and core self-evaluations in defining job satisfaction as seen by the self and the significant other
2015
The role of expert evaluation for microsleep detection
2015
Abstract Recently, it has been shown by overnight driving simulation studies that microsleep density is the only known sleepiness indicator which rapidly increases within a few seconds immediately before sleepiness related crashes. This indicator is based solely on EEG and EOG and subsequent adaptive pattern recognition. Accurate microsleep recognition is very important for the performance of this sleepiness indicator. The question is whether expensive evaluations of microsleep events by a) experts are necessary or b) non-experts provide sufficient evaluations. Based on 11,114 microsleep events in case a) and 12,787 in case b) recognition accuracies were investigated utilizing (i) artificia…
Happiness in advanced adulthood and the elderly
2016
The purpose of this study was to critically analyse the role that positive emotions, flourishing and mindfulness have among the elderly. It was explored how these concepts can contribute to successful aging and higher levels of happiness in this population. To this end, we conducted a non-experimental correlational study with 329 participants, aged from 55 to 98 years. Questionnaires were used to collect data through the following instruments: a socio-demographic questionnaire, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) and PANAS (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule), FS (Flourishing scale), PST (Positivity test), MHI-5 (Mental Health Inventory -- 5).
Emotion recognition changes in a confinement situation due to COVID-19
2020
Abstract The confinement situation experienced as a result of COVID-19 will have consequences at a psychological level. These consequences can affect emotion recognition because, due to isolation, interactions and social contacts have been drastically reduced. The aim of this study was to find out if there were differences in facial emotion recognition in two groups of young adults, one confined during COVID-19 and the other unconfined. One hundred and sixty-four young adults were tested twice, the first time unconfined, to obtain the baseline, then the sample was divided into two subgroups so that 84 were evaluated in a confined situation and 80 in an unconfined situation. .
