Effects of partial thermalization on HBT interferometry
2009
Hydrodynamical models have generally failed to describe interferometry radii measured at RHIC. In order to investigate this ``HBT puzzle'', we carry out a systematic study of HBT radii in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions within a two-dimensional transport model. We compute the transverse radii $R_o$ and $R_s$ as functions of $p_t$ for various values of the Knudsen number, which measures the degree of thermalization in the system. For realistic values of the Knudsen number estimated from $v_2$ data, we obtain $R_o/R_s \simeq 1.2$, much closer to data than standard hydrodynamical results. Femtoscopic observables vary little with the degree of thermalization. Azimuthal oscillations of th…
Elastic electron deuteron scattering with consistent meson exchange and relativistic contributions of leading order
1999
The influence of relativistic contributions to elastic electron deuteron scattering is studied systematically at low and intermediate momentum transfers ($Q^2\leq 30$ fm$^{-2}$). In a $(p/M)$-expansion, all leading order relativistic $\pi$-exchange contributions consistent with the Bonn OBEPQ models are included. In addition, static heavy meson exchange currents including boost terms and lowest order $\rho\pi\gamma$-currents are considered. Sizeable effects from the various relativistic two-body contributions, mainly from $\pi$-exchange, have been found in form factors, structure functions and the tensor polarization $T_{20}$. Furthermore, static properties, viz. magnetic dipole and charge …
Isospin-symmetry restoration within the nuclear density functional theory: formalism and applications
2009
Isospin symmetry of atomic nuclei is explicitly broken by the charge-dependent interactions, primarily the Coulomb force. Within the nuclear density functional theory, isospin is also broken spontaneously. We propose a projection scheme rooted in a mean field theory, that allows the consistent treatment of isospin breaking in both ground and exited nuclear states. We demonstrate that this scheme is essentially free from spurious divergences plaguing particle-number and angular-momentum restoration approaches. Applications of the new technique include excited high-spin states in medium-mass N=Z nuclei, such as superdeformed bands and many-particle-many-hole terminating states.
Messung der Spinpolarisation langsamer Elektronen nach elastischer Streuung an festen Hg-Targets
1967
SpinpolarizationP(Θ) of slow electrons elastically scattered by a solid Hg-target has been studied in a double-scattering experiment for electron energies between 300 eV and 900 eV. For the same energy range the angular dependence of the scattered intensity has been measured. Maximum degree of polarization found isP=−0.23±0.04 (E=900 eV,Θ=105°).

CP observables with spin-spin correlations in chargino production
2008
We study the CP-violating terms of the spin-spin correlations in chargino production e+e- -> chi^+/-_1 chi^-/+_2, and their subsequent two-body decays into sneutrinos plus leptons. We propose novel CP-sensitive observables with the help of T-odd products of the spin-spin terms. These terms depend on the polarizations of both charginos, with one polarization perpendicular to the production plane. We identify two classes of CP-sensitive observables; one requires the reconstruction of the production plane, the other not. Our framework is the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters.
Measurement of the transverse spin correlations in the decay Z → τ+τ-
1997
For tau leptons produced in e(+)e(-) --> tau(+)tau(-) interactions there are, in addition to the longitudinal spin correlations, two independent transverse spin correlations associated with the transverse (within the production plane) and normal (to the production plane) polarization components. A measurement of the transverse-transverse and transverse-normal tau spin correlations in the decay Z --> tau(+)tau(-), C-TT and C-TN, is presented based on the aplanarity angle of the decay products of both tau leptons. Using 80 pb(-1) of data collected by ALEPH on the peak of the Z resonance, the results are C-TT = 1.06 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.05(syst), and C-TN = 0.08 +/- 0.13(stat) +/- 0.04(syst). …
Simultaneous measurement of forward-backward asymmetry and top polarization in dilepton final states fromtt¯production at the Tevatron
2015
We present a simultaneous measurement of the forward-backward asymmetry and the top-quark polarization in t (t) over bar production in dilepton final states using 9.7 fb(-1) of proton-antiproton collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV with the D0 detector. To reconstruct the distributions of kinematic observables we employ a matrix element technique that calculates the likelihood of the possible t (t) over bar kinematic configurations. After accounting for the presence of background events and for calibration effects, we obtain a forward-backward asymmetry of A(t (t) over bar) = (15.0 +/- 6.4(stat) +/- 4.9(syst)) % and a top-quark polarization times spin analyzing power in the beam basis of kappa P…
Symmetries and similarities for spin orientation parameters in at SM thresholds
2011
Abstract We consider the spin orientation of the final Z bosons for the processes in the Standard Model. We demonstrate that at the threshold energies of these processes the analytical expressions for the Z boson polarization vectors and alignment tensors coincide ( e + e − → Z H , Z γ ) or are very similar ( e + e − → Z Z ). In addition, we present interesting symmetry properties for the spin orientation parameters.
Neutrino conversions in a polarized medium
1997
Electron polarization induced by magnetic fields can modify the potentials relevant for describing neutrino conversions in media with magnetic fields. The magnitudes of polarization potentials are determined for different conditions. We show that variations of the electron polarization along the neutrino trajectory can induce resonant conversions in the active-sterile neutrino system, but cannot lead to level crossing in the active-active neutrino system. For neutrino flavour conversions the polarisation leads only to a shift of the standard MSW resonance. For polarizations $\lambda \lsim 0.04$ the direct modifications of the potential (density) due to the magnetic field pressure are smalle…
