Improving the kinetic couplings in lattice nonrelativistic QCD

2019

We improve the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) action by comparing the dispersion relation to that of the continuum through $\mathcal{O}(p^6)$ in perturbation theory. The one-loop matching coefficients of the $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ kinetic operators are determined, as well as the scale at which to evaluate $\alpha_s$ in the $V$-scheme for each quantity. We utilise automated lattice perturbation theory using twisted boundary conditions as an infrared regulator. The one-loop radiative corrections to the mass renormalisation, zero-point energy and overall energy-shift of an NRQCD $b$-quark are also found. We also explore how a Fat$3$-smeared NRQCD action and changes of the stability parameter $n$ aff…

Line shifts and broadenings in polarizable liquids

1989

We present a new dynamical derivation of the approximation used by Thompson, Schweizer, and Chandler and by Ho/ye and Stell for the frequency dependent polarizability of a quantum fluid with harmonically bound dipole moments; the Drude model. The derivation is the same for classical and quantum liquids—as is of course the result which agrees with that of these authors. We then refine the theory by taking account of the limited number of energy levels available, i.e., we replace the harmonic approximation by a two level approximation, for the target atom. This leads to a prefactor ω0I/ω0 in the line shift of an impurity atom in a fluid computed by Chandler, Schweitzer, and Wolynes: ω0 and ω0…

Phonon-induced polariton superlattices

2006

We show that the coherent interaction between microcavity polaritons and externally stimulated acoustic phonons forms a tunable polariton superlattice with a folded energy dispersion determined by the phonon population and wavelength. Under high phonon concentration, the strong confinement of the optical and excitonic polariton components in the phonon potential creates weakly coupled polariton wires with a virtually flat energy dispersion.

Quantum plasmonics with multi-emitters: application to stimulated Raman adiabatic passage

2018

We construct a mode-selective effective model describing the interaction of the localised surface plasmon polaritons (LSPs) supported by a spherical metal nanoparticle (MNP) with N quantum emitters (QEs) in an arbitrary geometric arrangement. Simplifying previously presented procedures, we develop a formulation in which the field response in the presence of the MNP can be decomposed into orthogonal modes, expanding the Green tensor of the system in the spherical vector harmonics basis and using the generalized global Löwdin orthogonalization algorithm. We investigate the possibility of using the LSPs as mediators of an efficient control of population transfer between two QEs. We show that a…

Measurement of the transverse spin correlation in Z → τ+ τ- decays

1997

The measurement of the correlation between the transverse spin components of tau(+)tau(-) pairs collected during 1992 to 1994 with the DELPHI detector at LEP1 is presented. A value C-TT = 0.87 +/- 0.20 (stat.)(-0.12)(+0.10) (syst.) was obtained for the correlation parameter, in agreement with the Standard Model expectation. (C) 1997 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.

The Polarised Valence Quark Distribution from semi-inclusive DIS

2007

The semi-inclusive difference asymmetry A^{h^{+}-h^{-}} for hadrons of opposite charge has been measured by the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The data were collected in the years 2002-2004 using a 160 GeV polarised muon beam scattered off a large polarised ^6LiD target and cover the range 0.006 < x < 0.7 and 1 < Q^2 < 100 (GeV/c)^2. In leading order QCD (LO) the asymmetry A_d^{h^{+}-h^{-}} measures the valence quark polarisation and provides an evaluation of the first moment of Delta u_v + Delta d_v which is found to be equal to 0.40 +- 0.07 (stat.) +- 0.05 (syst.) over the measured range of x at Q^2 = 10 (GeV/c)^2. When combined with the first moment of g_1^d previously measured …

The rate of photon production in the quark-gluon plasma from lattice QCD

2020

We calculate the thermal rate of real-photon production in the quark-gluon plasma at a temperature of $T=254$ MeV using lattice QCD. The calculation is based on the difference between the spatially transverse and longitudinal parts of the polarization tensor, which has the advantage of falling off rapidly at large frequencies. We obtain this linear combination in the time-momentum representation from lattice QCD with two flavors of quarks in the continuum limit with a precision of about two parts per mille. Applying a theoretically motivated fit ansatz for the associated spectral function, we obtain values for the photon rate that are in line with QCD weak-coupling calculations; for photon …
