Determination of absolute retardations by vectorial reconstruction

In this paper is described the application of the vectorial reconstruction to the holographic determination of absolute retardation fringes. The method requires a double-exposure hologram recorded with two reference beams. During the reconstruction process the image emerging from the hologram is viewed through a linear polarizer. Where the polarization direction is parallel to one of the principal stresses, only the corresponding family of absolute retardations is observed. By rotating the polarizer it is possible to observe the fringes over the whole model. The method is demonstrated experimentally using a deep beam centrally loaded.

Automatic detection of cervical cells in Pap-smear images using polar transform and k-means segmentation

We introduce a novel method of cell detection and segmentation based on a polar transformation. The method assumes that the seed point of each candidate is placed inside the nucleus. The polar representation, built around the seed, is segmented using k-means clustering into one candidate-nucleus cluster, one candidate-cytoplasm cluster and up to three miscellaneous clusters, representing background or surrounding objects that are not part of the candidate cell. For assessing the natural number of clusters, the silhouette method is used. El presente estudio se propone dilucidar las características de la blogosfera política española durante la campaña de 2008 mediante una muestra de tres reputados blogs ciudadanos y esclarecer si se produce una discusión ciudadana independiente de la agenda partidista y mediática. El análisis de contenido permitirá identificar el tipo de cobertura que estos blogs realizan sobre la campaña a través de las siguientes variables: enlaces, temas principales, protagonistas y valoraciones de los autores. Characterization of defect density states in MoOx for c-Si solar cell applications

Layers of MoOx have been deposited by thermal evaporation followed by post-deposition annealing (PDA). The density of states (DOS) distributions of the MoOx films were extracted deconvoluting the absorption spectra, measured by a phothermal deflection spectroscopy setup, including the small polaron contribution. Results revealed a sub-band defect distribution centered 1.1 eV below the conduction band; the amplitude of this distribution was found to increase with PDA temperature and film thickness.

First Measurement of the $Q^2$ Dependence of the Beam-Normal Single Spin Asymmetry for Elastic Scattering off Carbon

We report on the first Q^{2}-dependent measurement of the beam-normal single spin asymmetry A_{n} in the elastic scattering of 570 MeV vertically polarized electrons off ^{12}C. We cover the Q^{2} range between 0.02 and 0.05  GeV^{2}/c^{2} and determine A_{n} at four different Q^{2} values. The experimental results are compared to a theoretical calculation that relates A_{n} to the imaginary part of the two-photon exchange amplitude. The result emphasizes that the Q^{2} behavior of A_{n} given by the ratio of the Compton to charge form factors cannot be treated independently of the target nucleus.
