Stilbenoid phosphors with increased electron affinity: sulfones as electron accepting groups

2001

Stilbenoid compounds are one of the preferred classes of luminescent materials for the use in light emitting diodes (LEDs). A problem connected with the use of poly(phenylenevinylene) (PPV) in LEDs is the unbalanced charge carrier transport, electron injection from aluminium and electron transport properties are only poor. The substitution with electron accepting groups like nitriles is a suitable way to lower the LUMO level of the chromophore. The electron withdrawing strength of sulfones is comparable to cyanides and the second binding site is useful to attach solubilising side chains. A two-step synthesis of model compounds and polymers from ethene and sulfonyl dibromobenzene and bromo a…

Stability of the functional NLO polymers–optically induced depoling of the DMABI molecules in sPMMA matrix

2008

Abstract Low polar order (PO) stability is the major problem of the polymer materials for nonlinear optical (NLO) applications. In this contribution we will show the results of PO stability investigations in the corona poled 3 wt.% DMABI + sPMMA guest–host system. Influence of the poling temperature on the building and stability of the polar order in the system will be presented. To characterize the stability, PO destruction has been caused by high intensity light. Polar order stability characteristics were obtained from the sample second harmonic generation intensity (SHI) time decays. We have found that the decay signal is the best fit to the sum of two exponentials. Several physical mode…

Polymers, Ferroelectric Liquid Crystalline Elastomers

2002

Ferroelectric materials are a subclass of pyro- and piezoelectric materials. They are very rarely found in crystalline organic or polymeric materials because ferroelectric hysteresis requires enough molecular mobility to reorient molecular dipoles in space. So semicrystalline polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is nearly the only known compound. On the contrary, ferroelectric behavior is very often observed in chiral liquid crystalline materials, both low molar mass and polymeric. Ferroelectric LC-elastomers represent an interesting class of material because they combine the ordering of liquid crystalline ferroelectric phases and the rubber elasticity of polymer networks. Switching of the electr…

Synthesis, molecular structure, spectroscopic properties and stability of (Z)-N-methyl-C-2,4,6-trimethylphenylnitrone.

2015

Abstract New N-methyl-C-2,4,6-trimethylphenylnitrone 1 has been synthesized starting from N-methylhydroxylamine and mesitaldehyde. The product was fully characterized using different spectroscopic techniques; FTIR, NMR, UV–Vis, high resolution mass spectrometry and X-ray diffraction. The relative stability and percent of population of its two possible isomers (E and Z) were calculated using the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) method in gas phase and in solution. In agreement with the X-ray results, it was found that Z-isomer is the most stable one in both gas phase and solution. The molecular geometry, vibrational frequencies, gauge-including atomic orbital (GIAO), and chemical shift values were also c…

Platelet and Plasmatic Lipidic Profile as Potential Marker of Bipolar Disorders: Preliminary Findings

2017

IntroductionAlthough the diagnosis of bipolar disorder is currently based on clinical criteria, preliminary studies showed that palmitic and arachidonic acid levels are able to discriminate adult patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) from those with bipolar disorder (BD).ObjectivesTo replicate and to expand previous findings by investigating the relation between mood disorders and platelet and plasmatic fatty levels.AimsTo compare the lipidic profile of individuals with different mood disorder (MDD vs. BD) and to investigate the relation with specific clinical features (duration of illness, attempted suicide, psychotic symptoms).MethodsPotential participants were recruited from the …

Studien zum Vorgang der Wasserstoffübertragung, 47.Elektroreduktion von 1,4-Benzoldicarbonitril, 1,4-Diacetylbenzol und Terephthalaldehyd

1978

Electrochemical reduction of the nitrite to ammonium ions in presence of [MoO2(O2CC(S)C6H5)2]2−

1995

Abstract Ammonia is formed during potentiostatic reduction of sodium nitrite solutions on the nafion-complex-coated electrode. When (NH4)2[MoO2(O2CC(S)(C6H5)2)2] is present in NaNO2 solutions a polarographic wave is associated to electrocatalytic reduction of nitrite ion. The wave height varies linearly on the concentration of nitrite ion, allowing a procedure for analysing this ion. This electrochemical behaviour distinguishes the nitrite from the nitrate ions. The Mo(VI), Mo(V), and Mo(IV) are involved in catalytic redox processes determining formation of NH4+ from nitrite ions.

<title>Nonlinear optical properties of some indandione-1,3 pyridinium betaine derivatives</title>

1997

In this paper nonlinear optical properties of indandione-1,3 pyridinium betaine (IPB) molecule and its novel amphiphilic derivatives have been studied. Hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) has been used as a direct and accurate tool to determine effective hyperpolarizability (beta) of IPB derivatives dissolved in chloroform. Evaluation of hyperpolarizability gives an averaged values of (beta) from 140 multiplied by 10-30 to 450 multiplied by 10-30 esu. Disordering of molecular orientation for multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett films of compound C17-IPB has been studied by SHG techniques and discussed for different film thickness. It has been observed that orientation degree of the Z-type molecular str…
