Rapid parameter determination of discrete damped sinusoidal oscillations

We present different computational approaches for the rapid extraction of the signal parameters of discretely sampled damped sinusoidal signals. We compare time- and frequency-domain-based computational approaches in terms of their accuracy and precision and computational time required in estimating the frequencies of such signals, and observe a general trade-off between precision and speed. Our motivation is precise and rapid analysis of damped sinusoidal signals as these become relevant in view of the recent experimental developments in cavity-enhanced polarimetry and ellipsometry, where the relevant time scales and frequencies are typically within the ∼1 − 10 µs and ∼1 − 100 MHz ranges, …

The eXTP (enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry) mission is a major project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and China National Space Administration (CNSA) currently performing an extended phase A study and proposed for a launch by 2025 in a low-earth orbit. In vitro and in vivo experiments devised with the aim of developing a permanently implantable glucose sensor based on polarimetry are described. It was found that in ultrafiltrated human blood plasma the overall optical rotation was 94% specific for glucose, and that polarisation photometry yielded a sufficiently sensitive signal for in vivo glucose detection. The three types of capillary membrane intended for implantation that we tested, revealed an in vitro response time to glucose concentration of 10 minutes; when implanted, they maintain this over a period of weeks, during which time the same glucose concentrations can be measured daily in ultrafiltrated capillary fluid as in the blood …
Real time optical immunosensing with flow-through porous alumina membranes

Through the presentation of analytical data from bioassay experiments, measured by polarimetry, we demonstrate for the first time a real time immunoassay within a free standing macroporous alumina membrane. The 200 nm nominal pore diameter of the membrane enables flow-through, thereby providing an ideal fluidic platform for the targeted delivery of analytes to bioreceptors immobilized on the pore walls, enabling fast sensing response times and the use of small sample volumes (<100 mu L). Binding abilities of a chiral calix[4]resorcinarene: a polarimetric investigation on a complex case of study

Polarimetry was used to investigate the binding abilities of a chiral calix[4]resorcinarene derivative, bearing L-proline subunits, towards a set of suitably selected organic guests. The simultaneous formation of 1:1 and 2:1 host–guest inclusion complexes was observed in several cases, depending on both the charge status of the host and the structure of the guest. Thus, the use of the polarimetric method was thoroughly revisited, in order to keep into account the occurrence of multiple equilibria. CAROLS: A New Airborne L-Band Radiometer for Ocean Surface and Land Observations

The "Cooperative Airborne Radiometer for Ocean and Land Studies" (CAROLS) L-Band radiometer was designed and built as a copy of the EMIRAD II radiometer constructed by the Technical University of Denmark team. It is a fully polarimetric and direct sampling correlation radiometer. It is installed on board a dedicated French ATR42 research aircraft, in conjunction with other airborne instruments (C-Band scatterometer--STORM, the GOLD-RTR GPS system, the infrared CIMEL radiometer and a visible wavelength camera).
