Dynamics of cross polarization in solid state nuclear magnetic resonance experiments of amorphous and heterogeneous natural organic substances

2008

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments on carbon-13 in the solid state were done with cross polarization (CP) and magic angle spinning (MAS) in order to overcome the low NMR sensitivity of (13)C and the chemical shift anisotropy, respectively. In the present research, CPMAS (13)C-NMR spectra were collected by modulating the contact time needed for cross polarization (variable contact times experiments, VCT) on two different humic acids (a soil-HA and a coal-HA). VCT data were fitted by a model containing either a monotonic or a non-monotonic cross polarization term. The non-monotonic model, which fitted the experimental results better than the monotonic one, provided two cross-polariz…

1992

A structural investigation is described of poly(L-lactic acid) by best fitting of powder X-ray diffraction patterns. The examined sample shows the already known pseudo-orthorhombic α-form, and it was possible to determine the location of the two 103 polymeric helices in the unit cell and the size distribution of the crystallites. Furthermore, a study is reported of the crystallization kinetics of the above cited polymer by light depolarization measurements in an optical microscope. The crystallization kinetic constants in bulk were evaluated in a temperature range (70–165°C) wider than that previously resulting from measurements of radial growth of spherulites.

Direct surface relief pattering of azo-polymers films via holographic recording

2014

In this work surface relief direct formation during holographic recording in poly (Disperse Red 1 – methacrylate) films was studied. In this material azo-dye Disperse Red 1 is covalently attached to the main polymeric chain making lateral mass transport in the film caused by a presence of light electric field direction modulation very fast and effective. Surface relief grating formation process was induced by 532 nm laser. Read-out was performed by 660 nm diode laser. Diffraction efficiencies kinetics dependence on polarization state of reading and recording beams was studied. Surface relief depth on the films was measured by AFM. Deep surface relief gratings were obtained in Poly (Dispers…

Multilayers of CdSe/CdS/ZnCdS Core/Wings/Shell Nanoplatelets Integrated in a Polymer Waveguide

2017

In this work, fabrication of multilayers of colloidal CdSe/CdS/ZnCdS core/wings/shell nanoplatelets (NPls) on solid substrates by layer-by-layer deposition technology is successfully demonstrated for the first time. Integration of multilayers of nanoplatelets into polymeric waveguide resulted in strong dichroism in absorption and polarization effects in photoluminescence with preferable absorption and emission of TE (horizontal) mode that evidences about in-plane orientation of NPls relative to the planar waveguide. The propagation of the excitation and emission light along the waveguide was thoroughly investigated both theoretically and experimentally for different number of NPl layers.

Counterion transport numbers of poly(acrylic acid)-grafted porous ion-exchange membranes as determined from current step measurements

1997

Abstract The effect of an electric current on the concentration polarization of the external bathing solutions and the permselectivity of poly(acrylic acid)-grafted porous ion-exchange membranes has been studied. The experimental approach is based on the transient behavior of the total electric potential drop through the membrane cell when a current step is imposed from external nonpolarizable electrodes. When this voltage drop is recorded as a function of time, a transition time characteristic of each membrane system is obtained. From this time, the counterion transport number for the salt solution (KClH2O) in the membrane can be obtained. The theoretical modeling is based on the time-dep…

Interactions between 2-Aminobenzothiazole and Natural Organic Matter as Evidenced by CPMAS Nitrogen-15 NMR Spectroscopy

2009

Cross-polarization magic angle spinning (CPMAS) 15N nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was used to study the interactions between 2-aminobenzothiazole (ABT) and natural organic matter in the presence of the natural enzyme laccase and synthetic air. Through the use of synthesized model compounds, we were able to confirm previous findings by CPMAS 13C NMR spectroscopy that showed the formation of covalent amide bonds. We also provide evidence of the presence of two additional H bonds between ABT and the natural organic matter. Both H bonds involved the amino and thiazole groups of ABT.

Photoinduced mass transport in soft materials

2011

The surface relief grating formation in amorphous As2S3 and azo-benzene polymer films strongly depends on the polarization state of recording beams. The surface relief grating formation efficiency of s-s and p-p recording beam combination can be essentially enhanced by additional illumination with orthogonal polarization. It is shown that the direction of mass transport on the film surface is determined by the direction of light electric vector.

Photosensitive polyurethanes for optical record

2011

The method of synthesis of photosensitive polyurethanes polymers on glycerine, toluenediisocyanate and Disperse Red 1 base has been described. Two types of polymers with different amount of Disperse Red 1 fragments in macromolecules were compared. Films of the polymers were obtained from solutions in organic solvents on glass substrate. The dry film thickness was in the range of 3,5 - 4.5 μm. The transmission spectrums of the films were studied. Possibility of formation of side product in the process of synthesis was observed. The photobirefringence measurements of polymers films were performed. Surface relief grating (SRG) formation was observed during polarization holographic recording pr…

Polarization holographic recording in Disperse Red1 doped polyurethane polymer film

2011

In this report holographic recording of polarisation and surface relief gratings in Disperse Red 1 (DR1) doped polyurethane polymer films was studied. In this material DR1 is chemically bounded to polyurethane polymer main chain. Polarization holographic recording was performed by two orthogonal circularly polarized 532 nm laser beams. Photoinduced birefringence is a precondition for polarization holograms recording, therefore a detailed study of a photoinduced birefringence and changes of optical properties was performed. The lasers with wavelengths of 375nm, 448nm, 532 nm and 632.8 nm were used as pumping beam for sample excitation. The photoinduced birefringence Δn was measured at 532 nm…

Design and characterization of bi-functional electrocatalytic layers for application in PEM unitized regenerative fuel cells

2010

Abstract Results concerning the development and characterization of bi-functional electrocatalytic layers for application in unitized regenerative fuel cells (URFCs) based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) technology are reported. Carbon-supported hydrophobic (10 wt.% of PTFE) Pt catalysts (40 wt.% of Pt), and Pt and Ir black powders of large specific areas have been synthesized. Their structure, morphology and electrochemical properties have been investigated using SEM, TEM, XRD analysis, and by measurements of polarization curves and cyclic voltammograms. Current–voltage curves have been recorded during water electrolysis and H 2 /O 2 fuel cell experiments to evaluate their performances a…
