Somatic mutation profiles as molecular classifiers of ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal cancer.

Ulcerative colitis increases colorectal cancer risk by mechanisms that remain incompletely understood. We approached this question by determining the genetic and epigenetic profiles of colitis-associated colorectal carcinomas (CA-CRC). The findings were compared to Lynch syndrome (LS), a different form of cancer predisposition that shares the importance of immunological factors in tumorigenesis. POLE, POLD1, and NTHL1: the last but not the least hereditary cancer-predisposing genes

POLE, POLD1, and NTHL1 are involved in DNA replication and have recently been recognized as hereditary cancer-predisposing genes, because their alterations are associated with colorectal cancer and other tumors. POLE/POLD1-associated syndrome shows an autosomal dominant inheritance, whereas NTHL1-associated syndrome follows an autosomal recessive pattern. Factors influencing survival after resection of pancreatic cancer. A DNA analysis and a histomorphologic study

BACKGROUND The influence of DNA content on prognosis in stomach cancer has been investigated rarely, and the results are controversial. METHOD The prognostic relevance of the DNA content and histomorphologic parameters was evaluated in 41 patients after resection of pancreatic cancer. RESULTS In the univariate analysis, the DNA content, tumor size, lymph node status, tumor stage, nuclear grade, and type of resection had a statistically significant influence on the prognosis. No association was found between the DNA content and the histomorphologic features. Apart from the operative procedure, the DNA content was the strongest indicator of prognosis in the multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS …

Stable polyplexes based on arginine-containing oligopeptides for in vivo gene delivery.

In this study, we investigated to what extent the stability and transduction capacity of polyplexed DNA can be improved by optimizing the condensing peptide sequence. We have synthesized a small library of cationic peptides, at which the lysine/arginine ratio and the cation charge were varied. All peptides were able to compact DNA, at which polyplexes of short lysine-rich sequences were considerably larger than those of elongated or arginine-rich peptides (GM102 and GM202). In addition, the arginine-rich peptides GM102 and GM202 rendered the polyplexes resistant to plasma incubation or DNase I-mediated digestion.
