The impact of Spirulina, Chlorella and Phaeodactylum tricornutum (P. tricornutum) microalgal extracts obtained by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) on antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, microbial growth and in vitro gut microbiota composition was evaluated. PLE, compared to conventional extraction, led to a significant (p < 0.05) increase in proteins, carbohydrates, polyphenols, and antioxidant capacities of the three microalgal extracts. Moreover, Spirulina and P. tricornutum extracts significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the in vitro activation of the inflammatory NF-κB pathway. Microencapsulation of Phenolic Extracts from Cocoa Shells to Enrich Chocolate Bars

AbstractCocoa bean shells were subjected to green extraction technologies, based on the absence of toxic organic solvents, to recover polyphenols; the extract was then encapsulated using a spray dryer and maltodextrin as coating agent. The best conditions observed in the spray drying tests (core-to-coating ratio 1:5; inlet temperature 150 °C; flow rate 6 ml min−1) were applied to produce the microcapsules used to enrich the same cocoa mass as the shells and processed for the preparation of the chocolate bars. Antioxidant phenolic compounds recovery from Mangifera indica L. by-products by supercritical antisolvent extraction

Abstract Supercritical Antisolvent Extraction (SAE) was used in the recovery of antioxidant compounds from mango by-products. The antioxidant extract was obtained by solid–liquid extraction using aqueous acetone (80% v/v) and subsequent adsorption/desorption in C18 cartridge. Recovery of antioxidants was performed by SAE using SC-CO 2 as antisolvent. The temperature and pressure parameters were varied in the range 35–45 °C and 8–15 MPa. Paracetamol (acetaminophen or N-acetyl-p-aminophenol) is considered a safe analgesic and antipyretic nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug commonly used during pediatric ages and during pregnancy. We report on a term neonate with closed ductus arteriosus, severe cardiomyopathy, right ventricular dysfunction, and functional stenosis of pulmonary arteries at birth after maternal self-medication with paracetamol and consumption of polyphenol-rich foods in late pregnancy.
