Depressed Prostaglandin Release from Peritoneal Cells Induced by a T Cell Adjuvant, Lentinan

Abstract PGE and PGF release from peritoneal exudate cells was studied in mice after injection with two s (1–3) glucans, the antitumor active lentinan and the inactive pachyman. 4 days after injection of both polysaccharides, the spontaneous and phagocytosis-induced PGE and PGF release was markedly suppressed. However, only the immunopotentiator lentinan induced peritoneal exudate cells which exhibited a longer lasting diminished PG release. The data suggest that the T cell adjuvant lentinan may potentiate cellular immune responses by reducing synthesis of immune suppressive prostaglandins from peritoneal exudate cells.

Control of end-of-life oxygen-containing groups accumulation in biopolyesters through introduction of crosslinked polysaccharide particles

The formulation of bio-based materials with good performance in service and controlled end-of-life is imperative for an effective circular economy. In this work, an innovative approach to induce and control the end-of-life of biodegradable polyesters through introduction of crosslinked polysaccharide particles is proposed. Chitosan (Ch) has been subjected to ionotropically crosslinking and then added to polylactic acid (PLA) at different amounts (1.0–4.0%w) by melt mixing. Serological and molecular characteristics of Vibrio vulnificus biotype 3: evidence for high clonality.

Vibrio vulnificus biotype 3 has been implicated as the causative pathogen of an ongoing disease outbreak that erupted in Israel in 1996. Recent work based on multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) showed that V. vulnificus biotype 3 is genetically homogeneous. The aim of this study was to investigate the existence of subpopulations within this homogeneous biotype by characterizing the surface antigens and analysing the sequence diversity of selected outer-membrane protein (OMP)-encoding genes. Partition of volatile compounds in pea globulin–maltodextrin aqueous two-phase system

International audience; This study is based on the assumption that the off-flavour of pea proteins might be decreased using the retention of volatile compounds by a mixture with another biopolymer. The partition of volatile compounds in an aqueous system containing pea protein and maltodextrins was followed under thermodynamic incompatibility conditions. New Method of DNA Isolation from Two Food Additives Suitable for Authentication in Polymerase Chain Reaction Assays

Locust bean gum and guar gum are galactomannans used as additives (E 410 and E 412, respectively) in the food industry as stabilizing agents. Analytical discrimination between the two additives in gums and foods is now feasible by molecular techniques. However, only complex and time-consuming DNA isolation protocols are available to date. We have developed simple improved protocols to obtain enough DNA suitable for PCR amplification from a few milligrams of commercial E 410 and E 412 additives (containing more than 75% polysaccharides). International audience; In this paper, we compare the interactions between low methoxy pectin (LMP) and either Ca2+ or Zn2+ in semi-dilute solutions. Intrinsic viscosity and turbidity measurements reveal that pectin-calcium solutions are more viscous, but yet less turbid, than pectin-zinc ones. To get a molecular understanding on the origin of this rather unexpected behavior, we further performed isothermal titration calorimetry, small angle neutron scattering experiments, as well as molecular dynamics simulations.
